I don't want to generate too much excitement but I thought I should let everyone know that, for the outlay of a mere £45, your children/grandchildren/nephews/nieces can advertise a leading brand of popcorn:

Don't worry, the whole range will be on the clearance rail at £5 an item by September.

An article I wrote back in 2019 regarding The Hundred:

I cannot help but feel that the tournament will not be allowed to fail...

I suspect it very well might end up like the Big Bash, where the governing body will tell you what a financial and marketing success it is, quote viewing figures etc. But can’t provide evidence or prove any tangible improvement to the standard of Australian amateur or professional cricket.

Just when I thought that the Hundred couldn't get more unappealing to existing cricket fans, the BBC website announces that "The term 'outs' could be used instead of 'wickets' when The Hundred launches this summer. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is discussing the idea as one of the ways to potentially make cricket more accessible to newcomers".

More ‘accessible’ by making unnecessary changes which are not compatible with the existing formats....brilliant. I wonder how much money was spent deciding on that brilliant idea!?

I'm really interested to see what existing fans think of this when it finally gets around to attending matches

I'm a big fan of the T20 blast however I have no interest in IPL and generally International 20/20 as there is no context for me.

I have even less interest in The Hundred however, I do think a lot of people will come around to it.

Personally if they needed to do anything it was tweaks and better promotion of the T20 Blast

The best thing people who like cricket can do is just totally ignore the competition.

Whilst I tend to agree, for my shame I am going to two matches with my dad. We are members so got a bit of money off but mainly it’s just a chance to see as much cricket this summer as possible. Even though I do disagree strongly on the need for another competition.

Has anyone seen “Team Hundred” that Sky Sports have put together? Flintoff, KP, Darren Sammy, Tammy Beaumont the list goes on.
I think Elizabeth Ammon put it best, we’re literally watching cricket in this country have a mid life crisis. They’re so obsessed with a format seeming younger and different, that they’re forgetting where the real money and value is. When these “fans” and terrestrial tv go elsewhere to watch the next new fad in sport, they’ll have wasted their money, and be faced with a very awkward situation.

I leave it to others to comment on this:

I think the whole thing will fail in as much as no more spectators will watch it than the T20 Blast. I cannot imagine any new young fans being able to understand the laws of the game compared to if they watch any other form. Any new fans of this format are unlikely to want to watch a 4 day CC game. I would prefer it if they gave out free membership to under 16's and then they could choose when to come instead of being spoon fed a different version of a game that has survived for decades.

Graham Thorpe says that he thinks The Hundred will help England's Test match batsmen??!!

Either he is delusional or he thinks we are all stupid - or maybe he's just remembering who pays his wages.

I think it's the later.

With junk food ads soon to be banned on TV before 9.00 pm, the companies affected must be so glad that players in The Hundred will be parading around advertising their unhealthy products.

I see Hain's been roped into this rubbish now. Replacement player for somebody.

Should this thread be moved into the "General cricket" area, as Warwickshire are not involved in this competition?

He's gone to Manchester to replace Madsen. Brathwaite has gone to Manchester as well (replacing Shadab Khan).

Stone has been replaced at Northern Superchargers by Jordan Thompson.
