13 man squad:-
Rhodes
Hassan
Barnard
Benjamin
Briggs
Henry Brookes
Burgess
Davies
Hain
OHD
Mousley
Rushworth
Yates

I suppose Benjamin and Brookes will be left out?
Good, Burgess is back, even if its just for red ball.

What's happened to Norwell? Is it still a sore back problem or something more serious? He's missed 2 months of the season now.

As expected - Benjamin and Brookes left out.
We won the toss and chose to bat.

I’m impressed by the fact that after weeks of no rain and baking sun, Notts have managed to prepare a very green pitch.

We've been told back spasms that keep flaring up when he's on track for a return.

But that's multiple games now where they've said he'll target/play and then he's not in the squad - which suggest maybe something more serious than they realise

91-1, we'll take that. Might be a green pitch but the outfield looks lightning fast so we must cash in here and get a big total.

Looks a good batting track. Hope at least one of these 2 goes on to get a century. (If I haven’t jinxed them).
If the track continues to play this well, I suspect the only way to get a win will be a big first innings score, and keeping them in the field for as long as possible in the heat. Use tiredness as an advantage rather than the pitch. As I’ve not seen any ball behave in a way that would make a batsman worry.

Commentator mentioned early on that last time they used this wicket Notts posted a big first innings score and then bowled Durham out twice cheaply.

Let's hope for a repeat, we looked to have done our bit so far, mostly down to our two best players

Is it me, or does our top 4 seem to bat very slowly this year compared to last?
Hain seems to have gone very anti-BazBall. Davies and Yates take a long while to get going too.

Rhodes goes at a more brisk pace, but really hasn’t scored that many this year.

Puts all the pressure on Mousley, Barnard and Burgess to up the rate.

Really? I’d say that we’re scoring a lot faster than last season generally. One of the problems we had last season was that we scored so slowly that often by the time the second new ball came around we were only on 200-odd, so even if we hadn’t lost wickets the opponents were always in the game.

I think we score faster too. It's been a big criticism of mine last couple of seasons.

Even disregarding bonus points (and Bazball) I think we scored too slowly previously, especially last season.

This season has been much better - even if not perfect.

I was also one who was critical of Rhodes but last couple of championship matches he's shown his worth as a player (haven't questioned his captaincy in his dry batting spell)

I haven't got any data to prove this but I'm fairly certain this isn't true. I started watching after lunch today and the run rate never went below ~3.2. Got quicker in the evening session, ~3.7 at the close, and no-one was ever put under pressure to score quickly. And welcome it is too, last season we got shot out too many times when bogged down.

Enjoyed watching today. From the clips I saw of Hain in the Blast, was remarkable to see him play straight and at a composed tempo today. Mousley looked very solid until the aberration when he was out and although I only saw 21 balls of Barnard he looks quite correct too. As others have paraphrased, no dramas to get the fourth BP, then bat long to tire out Notts tomorrow would be my approach.

I think it might be because we were always 60 odd for 3 or 4. So Hain and Burgess inevitably had to rebuild.
Davies, Yates, Sibley and Rhodes barely scored last year. So perhaps that’s more of it.

That's definitely true!

We are scoring quicker and I doubt it has anything to do with wickets lost. Even when we were not many wickets down, the scoring was slow and made us all wonder why this was so and even Hain on these pages was accused of taking too long to get going.

It's what Davies was brought in to do get us off to a more brisk start. It didn't work out last season. Playing to the conditions is important let's not forget. Every season the bulk of our home games are April May and September (that presents problems as well as opportunities) so it can be quite a difference depending what grounds we have to play at away. We struggled last year at grounds like Canterbury and Bristol and had that shocker at Taunton. This year we've gone to Taunton (played far better but denied by the loss of a day and a half's play) won at the Rose Bowl and now Trent Bridge. Fast scoring test match grounds on decent wickets especially Trent Bridge which looks green here as they likely do not want the surface to break up too much so it will continue being fast scoring. Confidence too

We scored well today on a pretty fast scoring ground.

Hain, brilliant again, doesn't always look pretty, can look ropey at times, but he always finds a way. So solid. He's the boss out there.

Mousley was excellent I thought, his footwork frightens me at times, he likes to dance down the track, and he does take risks but he's so good to watch. So many frustrating dismissals from him though.

Grind em down now.

Should someone tell Hassan this is not a one day game? 50 off 35 balls !! Excellent parnership with Burgess

With rain expected around 3 should we declare over lunch ?
