The Cricketer is suggesting that one (or both) of Bamber and Booth may be rested for the Surrey game because of their workload so far.
It looks as though neither Latham nor Hain is certain to play - Hain because of his back and Latham because the state of his hand has to be assessed now he has arrived.

If Latham does play then only one out of Webster and Booth would be allowed. Decision made.

Shaikh & Sylvester batting in the second innings of the 2nds game at Portland Road, today. Miles & Simmons not appearing this innings. From that, I would deduce that both of them will be in the squad for the Surrey match - and Shaikh won't be.
So, will Latham be in for Shaikh, will Hain be back from his back injury (or Malik stays) and will Miles or Simmons replace Booth (I'd guess Miles is more likely, given Simmons poor form for the 2nds this season)?

Too many moving parts to really guess at this stage. If Latham is fit then they have said he bats three and replaces Sheikh which does make sense. Think Hamza needs to get some fluency in his game for the 2s. I'll bet the club wanted Simmons in there to replace Booth but have seen his form in the 2s as well and agree would be a risk. I don't think we really want to have to pick Miles against Surrey. Personally would go Simmons on potential but who knows what the club will do. I think Bamber should be able to get one more game in before rest. Yorks weren't huge innings and he had a break of over a week before that.

Good to see Tom Latham in contention. I presume he'll come in for Hamza Shaikh? Surrey have 3 players missing through call ups for England duty.

Maybe it's canny from Westwood knowing that Booth will drop out as and when Latham comes in so is saying 'rested' rather than saying dropped

13 man squad:-

Taz Ali
Bamber
Barnard
Hain
OHD
Latham
Malik
Miles
Mousley
Simmons
Smith
Webster
Yates

Pretty much as I guessed. Malik there, in case Hain fails a late fitness test and two of Taz, Miles & Simmons to play? My choice would be Taz & Miles.

You’ve missed out Davies

Be obliged if anybody can tell me which three miss out!

Hope to be WFP tomorrow!

It would be good if the Bears could beat Surrey. That would set down a real statement of intent. We have a decent chance with the squad choices. Hopefully Hain will be fit.

It had to be Booth rested for overseas player quota. Simmonds, OHD and Bamber would be my pick of bowlers. Miles very similar to the others. Guess Taz there to cover spinning pitch.

Officially, Booth has an ankle injury.

That's unlucky for Booth. He's had such a positive start. Hopefully it's not too serious.

Ooh, yes, sorry everybody. So a 14 man squad, 3 to miss out. Obviously, it'll be Hain or Malik, but as for the bowlers, 1 of Ali, Miles or Simmons - seam or spin and if seam, which?!

I think the team for tomorrow will look something like this:

Yates
Davies
Latham
Hain
Malik or Mousley
Barnard
Webster
Smith
Bamber
OHD
Simmons or Taz Ali

Is it possible for Davies to take the gloves and enable us to play an extra batsman? I would like either Ali or Simmons to play, depending on conditions. Miles has never been good enough for division one cricket.

Personally think would weaken us for this to happen - keeping, captaining and opening is a tough combination and as certain members of this forum have reminded us, he could be getting more runs and wouldn't want to imperil this. I also think Kai has been OK so far, especially with the bat, so tough to drop him. If he's at eight with Webster or Barnard at 7 think the batting is strong enough. I'm with you on Miles, I think he's had enough of a chance at FC cricket, only way I'd play him is if he's had a stellar time with the seconds. Which I don't think he has.

So Mousley Miles Ali not included. Big show of faith in Malik over the former.
