Well that was better, although because I thought their batting was light on looking at their line-up, I wasn't therefore shocked at the collapse. At one time I thought 190+ but they gifted some wickets. Very pleased that we didn't give catching practice again, the discipline of keeping the ball on the ground early on until you have a good look at the bowling. Very small crowd and I know it wasn't warm but the forecast got it right with no rain but that must be one of the smallest I have seen. Enjoyed the Bears women, Laura Harris is some hitter, no let up from her, she sees it and gives it a good whack with superb timing, just a pity she's not English.

Planning my first trip to Edgbaston on Sunday, I can't see any senior 65+ option, have they stopped this? If so, no wonder the crowd was very small.

Crowd was affected by several things. One it was extremely cold, two there are two games this weekend and three possibly it being Eid may have put some Asians off.
Thought the bowlers got caned early on and the Malan Wharton partnership was looking very dangerous. However the bowlers stuck at it and when Lintott repositioned Hassan and had Wharton caught next ball the whole game changed. Last five overs they scored 25 with malan facing very few balls and scoring very few. Great turnaround.
I thought when the bears batted yorkshires fielding was pretty abject and the spinners were conversely very ineffective.
Bit squeaky at the end but got there. Good game despite the weather

On the subject of low crowds it will be interesting to see how the double header affects the gate. Is it increased because Leics and Derbys supporters turn up or is it reduced due to having to pay the increased price. I am assuming Bears supporters can't pay a reduced price by turning up for the 7pm start.

Shame Garton didn't get a 2nd over early on after a pretty good opener.

I was scratching my head, especially as it seems Garton needs some confidence (and needs to see some confidence from his captain) in his bowling, he was in a groove, new ball, overcast, and he didn't get another over. good lord that must have felt like a kick in the balls to him?

yeah, I thought our powerplay bowling flattered them a bit, some rank stuff for easy boundaries, and i thought Lintott struggled to land one on the mark all night and bowled some rank stuff, really seemed to struggle with his lines in particular, got his 2nd wicket off an absolute stinker. it felt like his first wicket was just about the only ball he landed all night

fortunately Briggs was class as ever and Moeen looked like he'd be a wicket threat

I said to my dad when Bess came in at 6, unless he has drastically improved he was at least one place higher than I'd like were I a Yorkie, and I'm not sure he'd even be as high as 8 in our lineup last night.

When I looked at the Yorkshire line-up I did think it was well short of batting strength and Malan scored so slowly towards the end because of all the wickets falling around him. Our early bowling wasn't good and spinners bowling wides never looks good. They has 87-2 after 10 overs and that's why I thought 190+ looked on but they were to blame for their own downfall.

Hopefully this win will get us back on track but so far we have played 3 poor teams. This was the worst Yorkshire T20 I can remember. Some of the shots their middle order produced were terrible.

Durham & Notts also looked well short of a team you would expect to be challenging to get out of the group.

If we line up like last night for the majority of the remaining games, we should comfortably make the Q's again.

Didn't watch but happy to get off the mark. Derbyshire tomorrow, the only other team below us. If we can carry on like that it's a good sign. I like the way the spilt apart Hain and Latham in the batting order, think that will be necessary. Hope for his own development Kai Smith gets the gloves at some point but Davies less of an issue keeping, captaining and opening in this format - I guess. Does he look stressed still?

Agree with pretty much everything said:

  • the game turned on the Lintott wicket/Hassan Ali catch. Genius field positioning or brainless batting
  • Briggs and M Ali are our two banker bowlers
  • Yorkshire are a poor team, especially batting, and we'll have to better against better teams
  • Low crowd was due to weather but also partly due to the fact we lost the first two?

I also thought Davies' glovework was actually pretty poor up until the leg side catch he took.

Need to win Sunday to maintain momentum if we wanna qualify

The crowd was really poor. It didn't feel like an occasion at all. The club barely make an effort these days. All we get are the same two jingles being played, barely audible music clips and a few t-shirts chucked into the crowd.
I bet they go all out on the entertainment when the 16.4 roadshow pulls into town.

Anyway, a solid win against a dreadful Yorkshire team. Their recruitment has been even worse than ours.
We did well to pull it back after they were galloping along at 120 off 13 overs. The decision making of the captain left a lot to be desired before Lintott got the breakthrough.
It looks like we are getting towards a winning formula but I was concerned with Moeen's batting. He didn't time one of his 11 balls, but he will probably go and score a century next week.
