With the hot weather and the new Aussie spinner I wonder if the line up will be something like this:

Latham
Yates
Davies (c&w - needs to drop down order!)
Hain
Bethell
Mousley
Barnard
Bamber
Rocchi
Rushworth
OHD

4 seamers 4 spinners very well balanced.

Yeah, you kind of get the feeling it's time for action with Davies' triple role now (Though who knows what will happen). Reluctantly I agree he keeps the gloves and drops down the order, but I think Bethell will go three on England instructions and Davies five. Is Hassan Ali contracted for T20 only? ie unavailable for this one? With the Aussie spinner and no Booth or Webster, he could fit in and provide some much needed sharpness in the attack.

I'm not sure where he is with availability right now, but I'd like to see Garton do some red ball. Might do him some good to just bowl without someone going after him every ball and he could definitely do a batting job at that tricky number 8 spot.

I think Hasan Ali is available in all formats.

So that's potentially, 3 Overseas players competing for the 2 spots?!

yeah I'd love to see him really given his head and told to just have a go with the new ball. Knowing his luck, it would be clear blue skies and a thankless task on a flat featherbed

On the Bears Podblast last week, Garton (who came across really well) said that he was available for red ball selection and hoped to get his chance at some stage.

Bethell will be the squad for this match, he has been formally released by England.

Will be released Saturday evening.

Having signed a specialist spinner for the Kookaburra games, and having a top quality trst batsman, it would be totally illogical to omit either from the side for Hassan Ali.

Also I would play Kai Smith as keeper, the experiment of Davies doing 3 roles is a total failure. Bethell should bat at 3, as that is likely to be his best position, and England role for many years.

I expect Bethell will bat 3 on England orders but I'm not sure that's wise. He hasn't faced a red ball this year and Somerset always have a good crop of seamers, reinforced at the moment by Matt Henry. I'd slot him in at 5.
Somerset's batting is a bit flaky, full of batters who promise more than they deliver. Just as well, given our attack.

I’d like to see that, just for values sake on the contract. I think he’d offer something different, especially with the kookaburra and hopefully he does get a chance. Fingers crossed his body holds up, as that was his issue at Sussex.
Nice to see players trying to play red ball, a trend that’s growing after Banton last year, Smeed, Roy, Archer, Salt all saying they’re available for red ball or have played red ball this season.

Team:-

Davies (Captain)
Yates
Latham
Hain
Bethell
Barnard
Smith (Keeper - great, mainly in the sense that's its one less thing that Davies has to think about, rather than doubts about Kai's keeping skills!)
Bamber
Rocchiccioli
Simmons
OHD

Somerset won the toss and chose to bat.

From the comentary, it was suggested that the extra pace of Simmons was preferred.

Mousley hasn't returned to the red ball side, he was dropped several games ago as he only socred c150 runs in the 5(?) games he played.

Not great this is it?

I forgot that the CC was back on today and only started watching at around 50-0 but we look really flat and out of ideas. I cant remember a genuine chance or unlucky LBW call f any kind (I haven't been glued to the game though).

Those couple of wins at the beginning of the season might prove vital because since then, we have not looked like adding many more to our total.

The T20 has produced some really poor performances so far considering the players we have at our disposal and we have a run of games against teams above us coming soon and we have been 2nd best more than on top in the CC games I have watched.

I keep saying it but something is not right at our club, we should be doing better than this.

Looks like another strip for batsmen but the bowling didn't look inspiring when one of the openers is a tailender who they are persevering with who averages 20. Our bowling looked samey apart form Simmons' pace and the idea of Bethell bowling first change is laughable. Is this a directive form the ECB, if it is, then it is none of their *** business as they cannot dictate who we bowl and when, it's bad enough that they can take players out of selection but I cannot think of any other reason for such a strange bowling change unless Davies is a fan of 'Funky Stokes' captaincy plans which sometimes leave me cold and confused.

Disappointed Taz Ali missed out. He's obviously got some talent and did OK in the three games he played for us in the championship. Seems we started the season with a eye to developing players for the future and then after a few games lost our nerve.
