Looking at the bottom of the table, it’s getting interesting at Southampton.

Are Hampshire going to survive due to bad light with 9 wickets down?

I thought the same but there’s another day to go yet!

It would just be Hants luck for it to rain all day in London tomorrow!

Even better for them if it rained in Southampton.

Hampshire have lost, looks like they could be dropping into the 2nd division unless Yorkshire help them out but doubt it. Perhaps they will need to get Geldof down to Southampton to record 'I Don't Like Saturday's' as they have managed to lose games for the last 3 Saturday's. Shame.

With their win yesterday, Sussex draw level with Warwickshire on points but go above because of winning one more game.

Yes, my keyboard is soaked with tears. Hampshire have had luck follow them around for a while with their non-relegation a few years ago because of Durham's bookkeeping, 2 very dodgy T20 final wins and some of us do not forget that game they has v Derbyshire in 1999 (Yes, 26 years ago I know) when they put their 2nd string bowlers on when Derbyshire were close to following-on, so that Derbyshire would still be interested in going for a win which would be the best way for Hampshire to win and it sent us down. Robin Smith accused us of 'Bitching' about it but it was so obvious that even the Derbyshire members knew something strange was going on. And Bransgrove has been a mouthy individual over the years, thinking he could buy Ashes Tests just because Hampshire had a few Tests, he thought they would have the right to hold Tests every year. On the BBC cricket site there are plenty of Hampshire fans blaming all sorts of things including a points deduction. Most sides have gone down in the last 15 years, so they will just have to suck it up.

And Warks stay above Essex on fewest losses, both having won 3 games each

Six down. Can Will Rhodes save Durham?

Durham folding, I do like the look of Thompson but I think Yorkshire might be up the top end next season

Bloody lucky Hampshire do it again. How often would that happen, 8 wickets for 28, maybe Durham deserve it.

It is interesting that the Notts openers contributed about 2500 championship runs this season, above 1200 more than our regular combination.
That difference has a number of effects, less pressure on the middle order, so they are coming in to face an older ball and bowlers who have already bowled for several overs, more rest time for our bowlers, so they will be fresher when they are needed to bowl, it improves the confidence of the whole side, by having longer inning pressure in increased on the opposition and they are expending more energy by being in the field longer.

I feel that replacing one, if not both, the regular openers is essentisal before next sesason.

Notts openers put up similar numbers in 2024 and they finished beneath us though? Alex Davies was the 2nd highest run scorer in the division that year. We were 7th, they were 8th.

Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed are extremely good openers and have had a couple of good years I think this Notts team is excellent all round though, a strong battery of seam bowlers, some of whom have genuine pace. And they're young. In Liam Patterson White they have a solid spinner who can make big runs with the bat from number 8. Farhan Ahmed coming through aswell to give a further spin option. Lyndon James a seam bowling all rounder. Notts recruit heavily but 3 aforementioned are all homegrown, credit to them. They've lots of players who are really good but probably won't get called up by England, that's key. A middle order who convert starts.

I think they're a lot better balanced outfit than Surrey ever were lately. Surrey always seemed to be 100-5 before the tail would get them upto 330, somebody from 8 to 11 always made runs be it Clark, Joverton, Atkinson or whoever, and then the seamers took over. Generally relied of part time spin. Won 3 County Championships.

Just think Notts are a good all round team who have recruited heavily but also seem to have got their own academy working. Core of the squad has been together quite a while too. Patterson White, James, Hutton, Slater, Hameed, Joe Clarke have all been together quite a few years now, 6 or so I'd say. Steven Mullaney and Paul Franks as ex players now coaches obviously know the club inside out. Mick Newell too. They've stuck by Peter Moores through some pretty average times, some not so long ago. He's been head coach since 2016, with Newell as DoC, just think of all the change and upheaval we've had in that time.

Our issue is, and I've said it before, is that we seem to have too large a turnover in staff (players and coaches) every 2 or 3 years. Different bowling coaches, different bowlers, different head coaches, different Director of cricket (we're on our third one since 2021) etc...only Yates, Hain and Woakes remain from the side that won the Championship in 2021. We've just got no continuity and until we do we'll always feel like we're in a transitional phase.

I think we did have a high turnover a few years ago when we were relegated in 2017 and it was needed as we couldn't stay up even with Bell, Trott, Ambrose, Patel, Wright. OHD and many others and it was felt that we needed fresh blood. We got that through Sibley, Rhodes, Norwell, Miles, Briggs, etc but it does appear as though no one wants to hang around too long and not sure if both Sibley and Rhodes left because they wanted to be near to more or less where they started but I don't think we have been that good at hanging onto players. A lot of the 2021 side went because of different events, in Miles case, no form, Norwell got injured, Briggs had no CC form, Bresnan was never long term anyway, Burgess to try something different, Sib/Rhodes, I have mentioned, Lamb, badly treated after having a good season but I do think there is a lot we don't get told about why a player wants to go.

Totally. It's not just players either, it's coaches and backroom staff etc. We've never been the best with contract renewals re. players (i think we maybe improving slightly, couldnt really get worse). And we don't seem to well with recruiting coaches and staff. There's been numerous instances in the past couple or so years of positions being vacant for absolutely months on end.
