With the first game tomorrow you'd expect the team out today sometime. Interesting to review people's thoughts on bowlers, seam specifically, as we seem to have a lot of them without much clear hierarchy. I think we'll go with Kai Smith keeping at 7 and Barnard at 6. So that means four seamers, can't see playing a specialist spin this time of the year. I'd like to see Woakes, Barker, Gilchrist and Bamber with Simmons and Booth to slot in for subsequent games - but it's tricky, there could be any combination and it wouldn't be significantly stronger or weaker.

Is Webster missing for the first game?

Yes, Webste is in the squad but Barker isn't.

Live scores link for today

Team:-
Davies
Shaikh
Mousley
Malik
Barnard (Captain)
Kai Smith (Keeper)
Woakes
Thompson
Barker
Booth
Bamber

I guess that will ne pretty close to our opening CC lineup. Notable that Ed B is Captain today (he must be getting the CC job) and Kai is Keeper (there is,a good chance he'll be first choice as well).
Davies got another high score, opening (88) - being relieved of two other roles, has got to be good for him?!

Its actually a 13 man squad, so I guess that will be the batting lineup, Gilchrist & OHD are also there, so they'll probably feature in the bowling lineup.

Is there any news about Hain and Yates?

Does anyone know whether Bamber was involved in South Africa or is he injured? Hopefully Hain is ok as well?

Back in the day, there were many enclaves and enclaves of counties but it seems very unlikely that the former Colts Ground was ever in Worcestershire.
The Rea does rise in Worcs so it's possible that it forms the county boundary somewhere upstream, which could give rise to this confusion.

Michael Atherton mentioned something on Sky in the summer that when Edgbaston was built it was actually in Worcestershire and the other side of the river (towards Moseley so therefore the Colts ground) was in Warwickshire.

They've started no? During the last home game v Essex they appeared to be making a start.
It didn't look like anything had been done when I saw it on the news yesterday (Rachel Reeves was being interviewed there). I had thought that the bulldozers would have moved in straight after the last home match in September.

Does anyone have any idea when work will start on the hotel and new Raglan Stand? There doesn’t appear to be much happening. I had thought they had a race against time to be ready in time for the 2027 Ashes.

Fantastic news. He seems to follow Keith Barker around!

It would be quite nice if Warks Twitter gave us some squad news, or even some acknowledgment that the men are playing tomorrow in a game that would put us in a nice position were we to win.

Good chase in the middle, and then a few jitters towards the end, but the game was gone by then.

I only saw the second innings. Does anyone what happened with Garton's one over?

It was pretty rubbish tbh. Full tosses and inaccurate.

Does anyone know how we can get the score for this? I would be interested to see how that XI perform.

He will be a massive loss to our T20 team. It’s a shame that he is leaving but you can’t blame him for wanting to go back to his family area at this stage of his career.

I wonder why Briggs only bowled 2 overs. Bizarre.

OHD out for a month according to the official X account. Not good news at all.

I listened to it the other day whilst out running. Really enjoyable listen. I am looking forward to the Liam Norwell interview.

Excellent signing. Happy with this.

62 off 32 balls for England today.
In this form we won’t see much of him for Warks next season sadly. The franchises and England will hog him.

This is a huge blow, especially being so sudden. That batting line up is looking wafer thin, at the moment its Hamza in for Rhodes and Kai in for Burgess, which on the one hand is exciting, but I think will leave us vulnerable. The need to recruit of an experienced top order bat is now desperate.

That doesn't bear thinking about really given that we have flirted with relegation in 2 of the past 3 seasons. There is a lot of rebuilding to do before the season starts, including improving our aging bowling line up.

Seems he has decided to retire, to persue a new career.

His decision leaves us without a quality keeper on the staff, with the inexperienced Kai Smith the likely first choice.

Best wishes to him. I’m gutted though - he is a top keeper. I hope that Larsen is actively trying to recruit. This wouldn’t have been an over night decision by Burgess. With Rhodes also gone and an aging bowling line up (and without a specialist red ball spinner) we could be suffering a hard summer.

As usual, kind and constructive comments welcomed and the other sort tolerated because I believe in free speech!

Thanks. Very well articulated!

Very interesting article in the Cricketer online today written by George Dobell. It confirms that a review of the playing and coaching staff will commence very soon - earlier than the usual end of season review - with Robinson’s position said to be ‘under threat’. Suggests that there are issues between him and some players, as many have alluded to, and goes onto say that Larsen’s position may also be under question, albeit he will be leading the initial review.
Could be an interesting few weeks and months ahead!
I can’t help thinking that with the clubs aim to primarily invest in the stadium/hotels etc, Larsen & Robinson are working under financial restrictions and subsequently red ball cricket comes last in their priorities - hence do little spent on overseas players compared to other counties. Having said that, I’m not sure what Larson had achieved for us so far, especially when his record of signings are concerned. With the loss of Rhodes next year and with Bethell likely to be missing for much of the time, we need someone to get a grip on our squad strength.
