Brookes certainly thought it was no catch and on the replay, it looked dubious. Not sure what role the square leg umpire played because he was the official with the best view.
Anyway, a remarkable effort by Ethan Brookes - a last wicket stand of 64 with seven sixes and his partner on 0.

The umpires disappeared up their own arses. They were appallingly weak.

We do have one genuine pace bowler on the staff - and he is supposed to be available for red ball - George Garton. Admittedly his CC record is not great, but I would have thought Stuart Barnes might be able to do something with him, to make him more than a white ball bowler. Oh Oh.......the groundsmen are starting to roll the covers back as its stopped raining. An early tea is to be taken at 3:10pm. This suggests some play is possible perhaps around 4:00pm? However, the Met office suggests heavy showers around 5 to 6:00pm? This could be awkward for the Bears!

This is what I feared and why I thought they were sensible to get the extra runs!

Play to resume at 3:45pm.....36 overs remaining. I think this could be a defeat unless the rain returns around 5:00pm. A pity that Kai Smith was dismissed very late last night. Ed Barnard needs to be smart and take the majority of the strike where possible.

There’s another band of heavy rain not too far away, I think we only need to survive another half an hour or so.

The umpires should really be saying, "Groundsmen, you have had a long hard time of it trying to get this game started, you really need to have your dinner and have a good sit down at home". In an 'Ealing Comedy' they would do that.

Does anyone remember that game in 2000 when we got 110 and Notts got 406-0d and we batted out for a draw at 305-8. They batted too slowly, spending 130 overs to get their runs, 3.12 per over and then moaned when the batsmen were offered the light. Yesterday, Notts should have known the forecast and got bowling in the best weather of the game with a lead of 200 but overstretched themselves seeing as they batted on with no urgency and scored no quicker than Saturday. Often better to have time rather than extra runs. Blazing sunshine where I am in Halesowen but it is looking so gloomy at Edgbaston and I have no sympathy for Notts as the weather forecast was spot on.

I was thinking earlier of the game which might have been his debut when he held on batting injured I think at Taunton

Yes, I was there. He had a broken hand. Ian Bell said that if OHD had retired hurt, he would personally have broken his other hand (don't think he meant it!).

The Taunton match was almost exactly 12 years ago - and he faced the same number of balls (62) as he did today.
