Off to Durham on loan - probably a good move if Danny Briggs is going to be the number one spinner:

Interesting it’s a 2 month loan and not a whole season. Suggests they want him for the white ball.

Well Durham have started the season quite well (even if they blew it against Essex) but Alex has yet to feature.

Off out on loan for County Championship to Derbyshire this time until mid July.
With his contract up this season, I suspect he’s trying to get in the shop window, and may have been told he won’t be getting renewed.

With Briggs performing well, and getting better every game, the chances of Thompson playing in the championship again are low. At his age he needs to find a new county or accept full time cricket isn't a long term career for him.

Hopefully he gets the chance to play and do well with Derbyshire.

Joins Derbyshire permanently. Good luck Alex.

Probably a good deal for everyone, Alex in particular, though I thought he would have a role to play as a second spinner in the 50 over competition, especially now that Lintott has acquired a deal in The Hundred.

Agreed, however he may well of being released at the end of the season anyway so it would have felt cruel to stand in his way of getting a new deal elsewhere now.

He did get his chances, however he was a touch limited with both bat and particularly ball. Despite this he could very well go on to have a decent county career still.

Best of luck to him. He never particularly got on a run of form at any point; and seems a good decision for everyone.

It does suggest though with Briggs and Lintott in the hundred, that the likes of Bethell will get lots of opportunity in the RLODC, and even use it to give Lamb and Mousley a chance to improve their spin bowling in matches.

Yes appears we're gonna look to go with Bethell, Mousley, Lamb and Yates as the spin options. It's a great opportunity for them.
