Paul remarked on here on the awful forecast for Monday on Saturday evening. I’d seen it too which was why I was alarmed our batting was painfully slow (not even just slow). Since Saturday I’d expected no play at all today!

Restarting at 5.45 with 10.4 overs remaining. Another 4 day knife edge. Let's hope tha rain stays away.

No, it didnt!
Well, we blew it, didn't we?! No declaration yesterday, when the forecast was so much rain today, was crazy. And I'm not just saying that in hindsight, I would posted that view, if I could have got online yesterday (no signal).
Another bad mark against Davies?!
"You can take the boy out of Atherstone, but you can never take Atherstone out of the boy !"
"The Bears and the (footballing) Foxes for ever !"
Draw. Mr Davies, take a look at the bigger picture in future. Winning a game requires you to look further ahead than others if you are captain. Make sure you have enough time to win and the bowlers to do it and that requires asking them to bowl when it might not suit them and also having a rough idea about what might come down above your head. You cannot do much about the weather but you can at least be thinking ahead. We will never know what might have happened if we'd thrown the bat yesterday after tea and got them back in to face and extra hours bowling, it might have made today a lot easier but having a side 8 down and then watching the chance to win disappear is really frustrating and annoying.
At 3pm yesterday I suggested we should declare with a lead over 250. At that point they could have thrown the bat at the ball and then declared at tea. With over 2 hours left yesterday the result could have been so different.
Agree with a lot of these comments but unfortunately most division one sides play not to lose first and foremost. I also think neither Davies nor Westwood strike me as particularly inventive or imaginative with their decisions.

Fully concur. I think Warwicks weren't aggressive enough in our captaincy. One month now until the next CC match.
The report on the Club site says:
"Finding 327 runs on a difficult pitch under thick cloud against an attack led by Woakes and Rushworth is about as tough an assignment as county cricket gets."
But it doesn't draw the obvious conclusion that a lesser target and more time would have made victory more likely.
Think you all said everything needed to
re the timing of the declaration. What I would add, linking to the white ball knock outs in the last few years as well, is the team seem to struggle when they need to find a win. Having said all that: from a check on the table, they're actually still in touch at the top though I think it's a few years before they have a realistic pop at winning the CC.
To be fair, the team pulled off a victory against the odds v Durham and won a match v Yorkshire that could have gone either way.
Yeah that is true Terry - credit where it's due. In my mind at least, a bit more expectation on this one though.
I can understand the frustration with not winning this one, but I don't think the weather forecast was bad enough to warrant a much earlier declaration. If it was going to be a complete washout on the final day then that would be different, but if we'd declared early and given them something chasable, and then the weather turned out to be better than expected and Worcestershire had won, then people would also have been very upset!
We're in a very good spot after 7 games and aren't a million miles away from the top, which I'm not sure many people saw coming before the start of the season, so I'm pretty happy with how things have gone so far overall.

Agree with all of this.

Have a look at the posts from Saturday evening in this thread. It was predictable.
Normally I’d take the rough with the smooth but in a match where we’ve won the toss, have a lead, have Rushworth and Woakes in form (along with Bamber and Barnard) on a seaming pitch, haven’t picked up any batting bonus points you simply have to make sure you win!
Bosworth, yes, there was exactly the same forecast from Friday onwards saying 70-80% rain and it never changed at all and the Met Office site does try and keep up to date constantly. The forecast WAS bad enough as I kept looking for it to hopefully change but it didn't. If I was a captain and the forecast kept saying the same thing then I would be inclined to declare and trust it even though we know not all forecasts are 100% correct. A 280 chase would be the highest score of the match and not really likely on a difficult pitch. Sometimes you have to back your team and Davies didn't.
