Be careful what you say about George Garton or you'll have his mum on here berating us as she did on one of the Sussex forums.

We are well aware. Said at the time, are we comfortable signing a bloke who needs Mommy to fight his battles for him? Also took half a season out cos he had long covid at one point didn't he? I mean come on lol...

What was Jack Haynes on when Latham dropped him at cover? It weren't many, single figures?

Granted I was only watching via Sky but what disappointed me last night (asides from the loss) was that when Garton was out under pressure and Sylvester was being hit about there did not seem to be much support from the team. As I say at the ground it may have been different but on the screen they looked quite lonely out there.

When we had Brathwaite and Bresnan a couple of years ago, whilst limited playing contributions, they seemed to offer bags loads of personality and encouragement to the team. This did seem to be missing yesterday.

I would have hoped for more from Latham in this regards, a massively experienced international captain getting people’s ear and trying to keep heads up and offering bits of advice.

Just to add to all the misery above, Gleeson didn't finish the final over the Mumbai game last night...

Was stretching his leg before the start of the over, bowled 3 balls then went off

That does sound like more bad news. The Cricinfo report says: "Gleeson bowled three hard-to-hit balls in the 20th to close it out mathematically before trudging off with a hamstring issue."
