England aren't releasing either Bethell or Archer now. But as comms yesterday put it, there was a named player they had to come in for, in our case it was Malik.

Anyone watching - have Sussex looked in any danger, were they giving any chances?

Unchanged test team announced, but non selected players are not being released.
Makes the decision to omit Mousely even more of a mistake.

Agreed, I'd already stated on a different thread that I would expect him to leave at the end of the season - I am now 100% convinced he won't be playing next year. Sadly it seems his body gave up on him over a year ago.

Edit - have we already nominated who Bethell will come in for and if so, can that change for Rushworth?

Long weak tail so it came as no surprise to me. We are what we are, I will be happy to end up mid table at best, don't think we will go down, but we are not good enough to challenge at the sharp end. However, Warwickshire are my county and have been since I first watched them live at Nuneaton 65 years ago, so I continue to back them, perhaps more in hope than anticipation.

I echo those sentiments.

I feel sorry for Chris Rushworth, that could well be his career over & done with now. I wouldn't have thought we could risk playing him again in any form of cricket.

How well have OHD & Rocchi bowled today, 50 overs between them so far - a fantastic effort.

So true about Mousley. Given the effects of the Kookaburra, its crazy that we haven't got a 2nd/3rd spinner playing (Yates being the other - though he's hardly been given a go). Rocky can't do it on his own!

3 wickets before lunch or we will be 'Chasing leather' all afternoon. Not sure what we might have done without Rocchi, he looks a good signing.

Given that Bethell and Archer are expected to be key men in Australia, might it not have made sense to release them to play in a game with a kookaburra ball?

Your question implies that common sense should be used when these decisions are made. It’s a novel idea but might just be worth a try.

Are we not allowed a replacement for the injured Rushworth?

No, Laws of the game and playing conditions allow a sub fielder only.

I thought there was a rule that, if both captains and the umpires agreed, then a replacement for an injured player would be ok. Is that not the case or is it only a certain criteria that applies in these cases?

Concussion subs are allowed, for a like for like, player, in some competitions, but some sides and countries have blatently abused this rule.

As Rushworth has, another, leg injury, it's unlikely his brain is concussed!

Ha! Mind you, whoever assessed his fitness for this match might have had their brain concussed!

You could say that about the people assessing some of our overseas signings, who arrived with an injury, failed to disclose it and had a multi week fully paid holiday at the clubs expense.

So what is Sussex's plan for the rest of the day? Carry on plodding along until they get a lead of 200? Or do they play a few shots after tea, get a lead of around 175 and then have half-an-hour to bowl at us tonight?

Yeah it's drifting a bit. Would imagine Sussex will have us batting again this evening.

118 behind, not as bad as it could have been at 410-4. Surely we can see this out, no stupid shots (Yes, I know), keep it on the floor and watch them wilt in the heat.

Why aren't Hassan Ali, Dan Mousley and Jacob Bethell not playing?

Hassan because we're only allowed 2 overseas, Bethell with England, Dan M no idea although is he injured as didn't play in the T20 game today. Anyway a decent second innings so far.

Hasan played for the 2nds today in their T20 win over Gloucestershire (we're still top of the group with one game to go, so should be in the semi finals). He took 1 wicket, but was quite expensive.

According to the BBC, the 328 balls Rocchiccioli sent down was the most in an innings by a Warwickshire bowler since Ashley Giles bowled 68.3 overs against Yorkshire at Headingley in 1996.
