It doesn't seem to have reached the Bears website yet; but Nathan Gilchrist is signing from Kent:

A little underwhelming. I usually watch at least one Kent game a year (my daughter lives in Canterbury) and he's never registered with me. His stats are less than stellar too.
But at least it shows some effort to refresh our aging seam attack. Let's hope we can develop him - and that he stays fit!
With Gilchrist and Thompson joining there is no need to waste the money giving Hassan Ali another paid holiday at the clubs expense, and the club will be able to sign an overseas player who intends to fully honour his contract with the club.
He's career average stacks up well against those of Zaman Akhtar and Ajeet Singh Dale and everyone's raving over them two so...
But I'm a little bit underwhelmed too to be honest. Never really struck me as somebody who's brings something different to what we already have. Like Thompson is very sharp and a genuine good no. 8 bat. Gilchrist has a strike rate of 47 which is decent though, he'll have had to contend with some flat pitches down there too to be fair.
Kent seem sad to lose him but there is an acknowledgement that he's spent a good amount of time on the treatment table too.
Feel like we have quite a few comings and going with regards to seam bowlers the past few seasons.
A bit of a gamble given his injury record but given that he has passed the data test of the Bears performance director I am expecting big things.

You know that this is one of the few matters on which you and I disagree.
Hasan Ali had a serious elbow injury and has also been called up several times by Pakistan; but when he has played, he has always given 100%, taken wickets and (occasionally) scored important runs.
I'm think he has been available less than 50% of the time he has been contracted to play for the club.
Was the elbow injury incurred while playing for Warwickshire, or was it a case that like his colleague last year, he arrived with a concealed pre existing injury?
Yes, he has done reasonably well when he was on the field, but that was not often enough, and has provided a pretty poor return on the high investment.
According to reports, the injury was incurred while playing for us:
"Hasan Ali, Pakistan fast bowler has confirmed that Warwickshire County Cricket Club will oversee the treatment for his elbow injury, which he sustained during the ongoing County Cricket season. The 30-year-old was forced to return home early in July due to the severity of the injury, which has significantly impacted his performance. Hasan Ali sought assistance from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). However, the PCB directed him to Warwickshire for support, as the injury occurred while he was playing for the club. The PCB clarified that since Hasan was fit when he joined Warwickshire, the responsibility for his treatment and recovery lies with the county club."
I wouldnt have re engaged Hassan Ali.
However whilst I acknowledge Hassan's performances in 4day cricket in previous seasons have been a bit mixed, but by no means bad, and he has had a bit of a patchy availability record, I don't think he's taken the piss or anything. The international call ups have been beyond his, and our, control. In T20 he's been really good.
I think Gilchrist will be a replacement for Rushworth, who surely has come to the end of his playing days with us. Let's just hope he doesn't have a similar injury record!
Is playing for the PCC Select XI today against Pakistan Shaheens. Same game that Hamza Shaikh is playing in
