Yeah don't think Westwood can be blamed too much.

Back to a flat pitch it seems!
I agree, Westwood felt like a last minute stopgap and Davies captaincy is increasingly poor
We are what we are, I will be happy to stay up and rebuild. Some strange selections and decisions don't help mind.
August 1993 the last time they beat us at Edgbaston? Phil Newport 7 wickets over whitsun bank holiday and Graeme Hick got Gladstone out stumped leaving them just 11 to win 4th innings
I gave up hope of anything better than avoiding relegation a while back.
I can't see us winning another championship game this season, we have been thoroughly outplayed more often than not but the Kookaburra ball and the occasional bit of weather has kept us away from the drop zone so far.
We just dont have the extra pace in our attack to take 10 wickets in time. OHD has started to look his age this season unfortunately.
Our batting though is a real concern. Even on flat pitches we always seem to get outscored by the opposition.
Westwood deserves some time but it has to be said that we look no better under him this season and if he sticks with Davies as captain, it will cost him his job. I have always had concerns about Davies character, he seems to rub opponents up the wrong way and this could be a trait of his that also seeps into the our dressing room. I have no facts to bear out my hunch but I just do not think the players are behind him & Barnard would be a far better pick.

No disgrace losing to that Worcester side though, this one is cannon fodder.
A dreadful day and unless something unexpected happens, our neighbours are going to beat us in a CC for the first time in 25 years. It was obvious what Brookes was going to do this morning so why bring on a part-time bowler. Other times when nothing is happening in CC games and a bit of Mousely might work, Davies doesn't give him a look. Yates left one, Davies looked patient and ready to 'Ride it out' until he decided to play a pull to a ball that wasn't there for it. Webster was going nicely and went for a big shot when it wasn't needed and with thought and patience we could be 250-5. Shahzad might have played a few Tests but he is no world-beater but we appear to be making all bowlers look like Malcolm Marshall. Can't see us getting out of this one, we needed at least 2 wickets tonight so I expect us to be chasing 400 at some stage tomorrow.

Plus Warks minds were on the following weekend's Nat West Final against Sussex
Now confirmed by the club that Latham has returned to New Zealand (he’ll be back for the T20 quarter final), and Hain is on paternity leave following the birth of his first child. Congratulations to Sam!
Awesome congrats Sam ! Great news
There seems so much wrong with the club at the moment, coaching, recruitment, and marketing just to name a few.
I am not ITK so don't claim to have all the answers, however while I'm reluctant to jump on the bandwagon, the continuation with Davies as captain is a key position that can easily be fixed. A few called it on here when he was appointed, and sadly the initial concerns have proved to be right.
Warwickshire top 4 yesterday 16 runs from 74 balls, the openers zero runs from 31 balls.
that is totally unacceptable, and way below the standard of performance needed for a first class team.
Championship averages https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/tournament/averages-batting-bowling-by-team/county-championship-division-one-2025-16856 you need to scroll down to Warwicks
Mix it up! It's death by medium pace this morning.
Bring on our overseas spinner and see if he can change the game.
@AJ You are suggesting a move that would be considered to be intelligent captaincy.
When have we ever seen that under Davies?
Amazing that we have 8 players averaging between 29 and 61 and yet batting is still a problem. I suppose it's the games where we get into trouble that we appear to struggle to rescue ourselves. Our main problem though is definitely bowling a side out.
Some of the averages are distorted by having one large innings.
Some of the averages do sugget the player isn't up to the required standard.
Isn't the best way to get to a true average batting average is to remove the highest and lowest score and work on what is left.

People are poking at the batters and for anyone that just follows the scores I get it that's the way it looks but time and time again it just feels as though the opposition bowlers have got that bit more than our guys have.
Look at this morning, it's tight, very accurate, disciplined, manful, hard working bowling but goodness me it's absolutely toothless in pretty favourable overhead bowling conditions for seamers. We're crying out for somebody with a yard of pace and/or a bit of swing as opposed to just 77mph seam bowlers. We've bowled well but sometimes you just need that bit more in order to try and force the issue. Take the Worcestershire attack, Shahzad and Taylor aren't express but they're quicker than our guys, get a bit more bounce and get a bit of swing. Finch is pretty quick. Hampshire game felt like the same on a similar surface. Opposition bowling attack seems able to extract more out of whatever surface we're playing on.
