That is good to know :-)
Just a shame Sam has had to wait so long for his England chance, while lessor players from favoured counties were given multiple chances.

89 (82) out caught in the final over. I think he's given a very good account of himself after a particularly nervy looking start.
After his first couple of overs, I just couldn't watch anymore and went and hid. Next time I checked he was past 50 and everything was right with the world. Really pleased.
One thing that was abundantly clear from that match is that Eoin Morgan does not like Hain.
No idea why, because his supposed issue of “starting slowly” left him with a higher strike rate than Jacks. And never stopped Morgan picking Livingston or Root, who both have a history of chewing up balls early on. Wonder if it’s more personal than performance.
Playing for the 2’s again today.
I can’t be the only one scratching my head at this.
It’s been 4 weeks now.
His family is in Australia but he’s been in the UK the whole time.
He’s fit enough to play multiple 2’s matches.
I can’t quite work it out.
Starting to wonder if “personal issue” has been used to cover something else up.
Maybe he fancied a crack at captaincy or vice captaincy and the Davies/Barnard decision has made him consider moving on.
I don't think the Barnard part of the equasion would be the issue, Ed Barnard is a great person.
It could be that the issue is actully from Robinson &/or Davies, rather than from Sam?
I agree that it is an ongoing mystery.
The only positive spin I can put on it is that, if there is a personal issue, the club are doing a good job of keeping it private. They did the same for Michael Burgess some time ago.
If that was the case then I don’t know why he would have agreed to play as a sub in the last game.
Much more likely that it’s a family issue for Sam.
It is very strange indeed, but having scored 101 off 158 suggests that physically he is well, and in a pretty decent place mentally.
It looks likely that Sam will be playing for the First team again in the Surrey game (starting on Friday 10th). He's not been selected for the Seconds match at Portland Road today.
'The only good banker, is the Lickey Banker!'
Great news that Sam will be a Bear for at least the next four seasons (until end 2028)

The tannoy announcer was quick to tell everyone about Danny Briggs getting 300 T20 wickets last Friday but did they mention Sam Hain passing 4000 T20 runs for Warwickshire? I may have missed it.

I don’t think they did, but Briggs was the first player ever to take 300 domestic T20 wickets, so I guess that’s a more significant milestone.
Occured to me a few times over the weekend. I think he may still be on parental leave, companies give big long breaks for this now and Sam hasn't played in over a month now. Adam Hose has taken his place for the Rockets in the 100 but Hose got one of those horrific knee injuries the other night. Could well be that Hain comes in for him now. If he doesn't, then it is worth speculating if he comes back at the end of the One Day cup and hopefully doesn't go into the T20 QF totally cold.

Hain came on as the sub fielder for Hose
i was eager for Hain to play but given his history in franchises between BBL and the 100 (basically, not picked at the start of tournament, given his chance halfway through when undercooked, played at the wrong position at number 5), I don't think the prognosis is any better this year
Hose has been batting at no7, behind (amongst others) an admittedly-promising virtual child all-rounder in Rehan Ahmed, and at least one other batsmen without Hose's proven track record over several years domestically. It seems they almost had him as a designated 'big man to come in and his sixes at the end' a la Paul Walter or say Alex Whiteley (albeit Whiteley's career SR actually suggests he wasn't actually that good at it...Mr Dot Ball... its a bugbear of mine)
so i have the fear that once again Hain's 'big chance' will be a hospital pass whilst he has spent the tournament so far watching multiple players with significantly inferior records have their day in the sun
for context Hain is the only player with over 1000 runs in the last 2 years of the Blast
This totally addreses my question, thanks ITE. I totally agree with you though, joining part-way through a tournament does Sam no favours, especially with a month off. I'm not strongly in favour of him joining the metro bank squad, despite the fact it could improve it, but speculating if he could join it if his involvement in 100 was sacked off. Feel for Hose, but Sam is a way better player, he should come in at three and ahead of Ahmed. I'm really bothered about the metro bank though and it seems all our batsmen have contributed at least once now.

It just goes to show that The Hundread has no idea what it is doing. There are players in it who struggle to get into their own county sides and you have Sam Hain, one of the most consistent performers in county cricket in all formats, who cannot get a game. I have heard a few players names being shouted out and I cannot immediately think which county they play for. There are some mediocre players in there who perhaps made the cut because they had a good 4-over spell in a T20 that was televised.
