I don't want to take sides in the debate on here about outgrounds - I love Edgbaston but I mourn the passing of outgrounds I have visited in the past such as Abergavenny, Bath and Dean Park in Bournemouth. i just thought I would mention that:

• this month's Cricketer magazine has a whole feature on outgrounds that is well worth a read

• I've just edited my colleague Jamie Ramage's report of today's match at Welbeck and was struck by his words:
  _"Nottinghamshire now play regularly at a ground on the outskirts of Mansfield that
  wouldn’t feel out of place in Field of Dreams. It has the feel of a mini Arundel, though
  its companions are electricity pylons, not a grand castle. It’s a ground that quietly
  delivers a proper day of county cricket, close to the action, grounded in its
  community, and increasingly a favourite on the Notts calendar."

In the latest edition of The Cricketer, Richard Gibson reports that:
"Warwickshire continue to discuss the potential for developing a second ground in the county to relieve some of the pressure on the square at Edgbaston. Pickwick CC in neighbouring Moseley has been mooted as it would mean keeping cricket in the Birmingham suburbs, maintaining accessibility for supporters."
I'm sure I don't need to point out the conflict between "in the county" and "in the Birmingham suburbs".
As is so often the case, members and supporters don't seem to have been consulted. Has the Members' Committee discussed this?

I'd say that Pickwick was almost an "inner city" ground, as it's about the same distance to the city centre as Edgbaston.

Also, When I last umpired there, c 14 months ago, the outfiled resemblecd a badly ploughed field with dangerous ridges and indentations, the wickets there are very slow and low, and, in my opinion, the ground does not have the infrastructure or space to host professional cricket.

Apart from Rugby School I'm struggling to think of a ground with the facilities, space and quality of playing area that would be suitable, without a multi million pound investment? Possible Wardens in Kenilworth, but I undertand they are selling that site for housing soon.

So they wanna reduce the amount of county cricket played anyway and on top of that they're looking to reduce the amount of cricket played at Edgbaston?

Apparently, plans to sell the Kenilworth Wardens ground for housing have been shelved and the Club plans to focus on improving the existing facilities.
It's many years since I played there so I don't have a clear memory of it other than it was a nice ground to play on.

Wardens is a nice ground, with plenty of space for parking and to build tempoorary stands and hospitality facilities.
The site includes a large area used asw a 3rd team ground, asnd as a rugby field, so there would be plenty of parking space.
As the ground is in a residential area, there may be limited public transport to the grouond, and I'm nopt sure if the train service to Kenilworth is viable for spectators, as to get there from Birmingham would require a change at Coventry or Leamington Spa.

Plenty of space and room at Nuneaton CC and Cov and North Warwick but I suspect the Club will look for a Birmingham ground to pacify the vocal people.

There seems a sudden shift away from County. Championship at Edgbaston. Our Chair led calls for reduction of matches. Our CEO told the members forum we lose 60k on every county game played at Edgbaston.

Looks like they will do everything they can to keep Edgbaston for internationals, Hundreds and subsidised womens games.

I’m normally passionate about playing games around the County but I’m suspicious about what’s going on here.

I love games at Edgbaston as much as anyone else I just want some games around the county and us to retain our identity.

Edgbaston is starting to get a life of its own separate to the Club.

Agreed, very worrying. Similar sort of thing to what Lancs are doing with the site in Preston by the sounds of it.

Nuneaton CC is nowhere near viable for professional cricket, the pavillion is poor for a club ground, and the ground is part of a large area of unfenced open ground which would require substantial fencing to be errected to secure the ground, as well as temporary stands, catering and hospitality facilities building..
The Cov & N Warwicks ground has very limited parking, and again would need stands and other facilities to be built to cater for spectators. There is also the issue that the cricket club are not the primary tennent of the ground, so members of opther parts of the C&NW club would still have the right to access the ground, and parking spaces while hosting a game. The parking on the ground is limited for a normal club game, so there would, effectively be, no onsite parking for anyone exept players & officvials during the game.

As you know from previous discussions I think that is utter rubbish! I won’t go through it again.
