Sad news that John Jameson has passed away.
Sad news that John Jameson has passed away.
He was very much a fixture in the Warwickshire sides I remember from my youth. He also gave a lot back to cricket after his playing career ended, as umpire, pitch inspector and administrator. Sadly missed.
Just seen that sad news. Crazily, I just posted on the New Local Derby thread, about my first trip to Edgbaston in 1965 - of course, one J Jameson was playing. I remember a wonderful, flowing, batsman who was capable of taking bowlers apart. For some reason, I only think of him hitting fours & sixes, EVERYWHERE, can't remember him running singles! I also remember him as a decent medium seam bowler - who like Webster, could switch to off spin - though again, it couldn't have been that regular an occurrence.

John was a regular attender at the Cricket Society meetings at Edgbaston so will be missed there.
It's a shame that, whilst I was able to post something about his passing yesterday, there is still nothing on the Club website about one of their all-time great players.
Brian Halford says:
"So sorry to hear of the passing of the great John Jameson.
J.A.Jameson, D.L.Amiss, A.I.Kallicharran, R.B.Kanhai, M.J.K.Smith. Has a better quintet ever played together in county cricket?"
