Birmingham Live in February this year has Cain quoted as saying that the stands were built in the 1950's, although he doesn't specify the year:
"The stands are really important. Raglan and Priory stand were built back in the 1950s.''

This is an amazing anecdote: A building that is less than 70 years old (probably) and no-one knows how old it actually is. Shows you how important record keeping and history is. I guess its just too old for anyone to conclusively remember but in the grand old scheme of things its not too long ago.
My first season watching was in 1993 and I feel like a comparative newcomer, but by the time this work has been completed it will only be the Barnes stand and the Press Box that have been there throughout all my time.
Does anyone have any idea when work will start on the hotel and new Raglan Stand? There doesn’t appear to be much happening. I had thought they had a race against time to be ready in time for the 2027 Ashes.
They've started no? During the last home game v Essex they appeared to be making a start.
When I was there for the Cricket Society meeting two weeks ago it wasn’t exactly a hive of activity but there was certainly work going on.

It didn't look like anything had been done when I saw it on the news yesterday (Rachel Reeves was being interviewed there). I had thought that the bulldozers would have moved in straight after the last home match in September.
They (contractors) were measuring up v Essex and the toilet block under the Raglan was a no go zone with the groundstaff hut/tunnel area closed and fencing all up and around it and the lads sitting in a dugout on the Rae Bank side. Don't know how commercial construction/demolition and all that works to be honest, no idea whether their behind schedule or not.
Time would be needed to remove everything from the offices and storeage areas of the stand, and there masy well be the slow process of removing aspestos from the site before major demolition can commence.
There we go then, cheers Highveld.
