Not a good start to the second innings with the Bears already 25/3! Terrible judgment by Hain leaving the first ball and out lbw!

Think Hain got a bad one here

I know he's left it but the ball pitches well short yes it jags back a fair bit but the umpire has to be guessing. To the eye it looks like it's going over

That's a ridiculously good effort from Yates under the circumstances.

How do we think we need as a minimum here?

Very happy to see Rob Yates back at his nuggety yet stylish best today. Really important innings that should ultimately define the course of the rest of this one. Feel as though Sussex's seamers have bowled with a bit more discipline than ours did, perhaps bar Crocombe, but with Sussex's batters' lack of patience giving us a route in.

If we can make this a 330 lead I'd be pretty confident on a pitch still offering plenty.

Strange, entertaining match. Yates, Barnard & Smith have pulled the innings around as Smith & Woakes did 1st up.

We are on top but another good spell of bowling tomorrow morning could change that quickly.

A 250 lead would be something to make them think but with 5 wickets left, if they don't get a good star tomorrow, the field spreads and we knock it about. I think we know how to take it from here and batting till lunch would see us well in charge and 300+ ahead. I think 270 minimum would see us bowl with confidence.

Important that we start solid this morning. Yates has batted so well with patience. There's no need to take any risks with so much time still available.

Talk about giving the opposition a way back in...

I used to see about 5 Sussex supporters who used to come to Edgbaston whenever Sussex were there in CC games and we had over the last few seasons, beaten them and with a few runs being put on from batsmen 8-11 and I remember him saying to his friends, "That's the trouble when we play Warwickshire, we're never through them, you have to take 10 wickets to get them out and getting to 7 down is never always easy after that...". I wonder if that same person is saying that now, a really terrific partnership has now given us the momentum and a spring in our step. In the end, a good morning.

What a brilliant innings from Booth, it's taken the game away from them. I think we have enough runs already but another 40 or 50 wouldn't go amiss!

Terrific little partnership after a mini wobble. Yates played a gem, deserved a ton.

Sussex need 328...

Feels in the balance this does, Sussex run rate is a concern. Wicket straight after Tea would be lovely.

Yes, need a wicket soon and break this partnership. Woakes hasn't bowled too well this game, too many loose balls, now is the time to strike and get himself into the game again.

Need a tune out of him tonight if we're gonna win this...

Wickets have fallen in clusters so far in this game, so if we get one soon i think another couple will follow.....hopefully!

Was that a drop down the legside by Smith off Woakes then?

Sorry but this is not good enough from us.

One of our big problems over the last couple of seasons has been taking the last 6 or 7 wickets in the 2nd innings and it has not been resolved.

I thought we were a little fortunate to bowl them out for just over 200 in the first innings, several of those wickets were given away.

I am not sure what our plans are but bowling short, wide, down leg side or too full will not make those plans work. We certainly cant put any kind of pressure on the batsmen with a few maidens in the way that Sussex did to us.

Woakes has bowled poorly all game, Webster doesn't seem to add anything and after a reasonable spell Thompson has now reverted to bowling bouncers down the leg side.

We have all these seam options but nothing different by the looks of it.

Thompson has just bowled Hughes (a very lucky played on), hopefully this will pep them up but it isnt too good this bowling.

The way to take wickets hasn't changed at all in the history of the game, no point in bowling short unless a batsman is poor against the short ball but on a pitch like this, it should only be used as a way to vary things, not an attacking option. Bowling tight and maintaining a line/length consistently especially against batsmen nowadays who love to hit out at every opportunity, is till the best way and in this game, we have given too many boundaries away and released pressure very quickly.
