We go again
We go again
Going today, got corporate tickets as meeting up with a Bear mate who lives on the south coast. Just hope that we put up a decent show. Not sure we have much chance against the Somerset batting line up. Lets see.
Just popped the ladies game on the radio, they're saying the track is slow which doesn't bode well given our struggles on slow away tracks so far
Team unchanged at Taunton. Obviously, Management feel it can't be improved on, atm!
We won the toss (yay!) and chose to bowl.

James Rew released by the ECB for this one...cheers...
The Somerset commentators cant believe that we are bowling spin so late into the innings after doing relatively well up to over 14.
22 off an over from Ali, 24 from Mousley. Woakes & Thompson (of course) expensive.
Gleeson has stopped the score from being unachievable, although he is being spanked in his last over.
216 to win..........yeah right
Rubbish bowling and poor captaincy again
Game turned when Yates came on. Absolutely no need to bring him in at that point regardless of how well he did in the last game.
Looks like 6-0
Well this was unexpected
Good grief!
I’ll be honest I thought we would bottle it but fair play to Webster and Mouse.
What a great partnership!
Well well well
Thank you Webster and Mousley
Sensational, you do see large chases at Taunton, fair play to them 2 for holding their nerve. What a partnership.
Superb batting from Webster and Mousley, really top class. It just shows that if you have one of your top 4 batsmen (in this case 2) still going strong in the last 5 overs you will be in with a chance of winning the game. Let's hope this is a turning point in the Blast.
Great chase but apart from scraping a 'Best 3rd place' finish, I can't see us progressing even if we win all the other games we have left.
Amazing run chase. What a player Big Beau is when he gets going. Mousley terrific, especially the take down of their young seamer in the crucial penultimate over.
A very mixed bowling effort. We had them under control but some inexplicable choices by the captain handed them that huge total. We signed Thompson as a death bowler but instead he gave Mousley another over which went for 20+, the Yates over wasn't necessary. Having said that, a lot of aerial shots fell just short of our fielders, and Barnard had Herman pinned right in front when he was on about 30. Poor umpiring.
Now to go and win all of our remaining games!
This is the first Blast game I've seen this year. Thought Warks played well throughout. Definitely some things went awry in the field, some odd choices, some catches just missed. Soms could have been 30 runs shy on another day. Very good to watch the chase. My eight year old son, born and playing within Middlesex, was shouting for the "Bears team" all through the closing stages, got to be good.
It's probably mentioned already but the team has many non-T20 speacialists all through the team. Woakes and Barnard were too predictable with the ball which spreads Thompson and Gleeson too thinly. Similar with the spinners, expected too much of Mouse and Yates when really needed a specialist. Having said that, probably only Mousley, Smith and Davies who are T20 specialists in the team.
Webster gets a para on his own. I can see why someone mentioned he was chewing up balls early stages but that hitting makes it up. He was driving at length balls which most other players couldn't reach. Also very interested by the innovation of him bowling seam to right handers then spin to left. Plenty for batsmen to think over there.
I think Yates deserves a tip of the hat for his innings too for all it's brevity. He hasn't gone on for all his starts this year, but his quick scoring was essential for us in keeping up somewhat with the run rate in the power play today so.Beau wasn't under too much pressure early in his innings. He's batted very unselfishly in going for his shots the way he has, I'm guessing that's the role he's been given.
Also. Gleesons 1-28 going at 7s was massive in a game where all our other bowlers went for 10+ and Sams was the only other bowler to go for less than 9s
Yeah obvs Gleeson a T20 specialist, and it really showed today. Yates I agree should get a slap on the back for his start. It's obvious still he finds it hard to manoeuvre the ball around and hit into gaps so he's hitting out probably more than he's used to. Think he's added those aerial big straight drives to his locker. Fair play to him, as you say ITE it's unselfish.
Yeah was thinking this about Yates, he's done well in the PP, and yes he's been pretty unselfish. From a technical point of view, he's better when he stands and plays from the crease, he's quite a clean hitter and plays fast bowling very well. I've always felt he's a bit of a better t20 player than he's given credit for, decent record in this comp.
