Yorkshire have a propensity to find ways to lose games. Gives me a touch of hope.

Another hundred for night Watchman Bamber coming up tomorrow!

Yeah was thinking that when he walked out! If ever there was a time for it.

Seen a fair bit over the weekend. As per my other post and someone else, Yorks definitely started better or were otherwise better prepared, but I don't think there's much between these two teams. I think Yorkshire may be on the way up after Root, Bairstow and Brook either come to the end of their careers and retire or head off for internationals, not sure where we go. Biggest difference I noticed is so many Yorkshire players are home grown. Their catchment area is bigger but shame we can't match that. It's only Yates, Hain and Mouseley who are home grown with us. Does infer a better future if the academy is delivering.

They stick with them too. The likes of Wharton and Hill barely made a run for 2 seasons but they stuck with them. Hill even become a front line seamer. Luxton, until this game, had done nothing and he'd played a fair bit for his age. Revis looks a very solid all rounder, genuine top 6 bat who can give good overs with the ball. They really do give local lads chances, and stick with them.

I think we're a bit quicker to write players off sometimes, and have a tendency to look out rather than look within when it comes to our squad.

In any workplace situation, having a worker who consistantly failed to perform at an acceptable standard has a very large negative effect on the wellbeing, motivation and performance of the other workers.

Therefore it is obvious, and essential, that Davies is removed from the team, in all forms of the game until he has shown by good quality, and productive second team performances, that he is worthy of consideration for a first team place again. The same could be applied to Malik.

The club needs to get away from allowing substandard performances to not have consequences.

Not only is their catchment area vastly bigger but their tradition of cricket is always there and not frowned upon, I doubt you will find anyone in Yorkshire who has ever said, "Flannelled fools" about cricketers which unfortunately is the usual English insult about a game certain people do not understand. In our areas, it's all about football. I know Yorkshire have even more sides than we do in our areas but they make space for all sports, they can all live side by side, cricket, football and both codes of Rugby. I would bet that per 100 pupils, more cricket get played in schools in Yorkshire, it's the ignorance of cricket in so many areas of Britain, that stops it progressing and the area that could produce Warwickshire players is a prime example.

not really, not in State schools anyway.

https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/education/study-sparks-alarm-over-decline-of-cricket-in-yorkshires-state-secondary-schools-5187754
**Cricket is becoming a preserve of the wealthy, experts warn, with fears working-class boys in northern state schools are missing out on the chance to play the game.
A new study, working with dozens of state secondary schools across the region, warns of a "significant" decline with too few schools owning even a single pair of gloves.

The report, Over and Out?, from Andrew Scattergood at York St John University, focuses on the game’s traditional hardball format – meaning any cricket activity that is played with a hard ball in junior or open age cricket.

Schools simply don't have the sporting facilities or equipment, it finds, teachers lack the confidence in delivering the game, and there is limited access to fixtures and clubs.

In contrast fee-paying schools, with elite coaching and eight times more grass pitches, are seeing a growing dominance in county and national talent pathways.

"A lot of working-class boys don't see it as a game for them," said Dr Scattergood. "They don't see it on TV or in the media any more. Without urgent intervention, the hardball game risks becoming the preserve of the privileged few.”

In Yorkshire, PE teachers from 53 schools took part in the study, from Harrogate to Hull, Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Leeds.

Across the North, with 92 schools responding, 24 said they didn't own a single pair of cricket gloves, and 22 didn't have a helmet. On average just seven hours was allotted to teaching Year 7 boys to play.**

Oh dear, I really hoped he'd finally come good today but Davies is out already. For the sake of the team and for the good of his own mental health, he really needs to be removed from the firing line and either dropped down the order or dropped completely to - hopefully - find some form in the seconds.

I can't believe that from Mousley

A poor shot, but no worse than similar shots played by the openers all season,. and they haven't faced any consequences.

Just when you think that Mousley could have a breakthrough CC season, he doesn't appear to learn anything. What is it that makes a batsman want to go out and smash everything as soon as they get out to the middle, is it a macho thing like you see Rugby players do when they score a try, they go right up to the crowd behind the post a puff out their chests as if to show what warriors they are. The lost art of building an innings appears to be dead for at least half of the batsmen I see and it's such a pity.

A five ball 12 told it's own story. I'm not watching today but could kind of tell it was a sticky end...

The best/worst 12 of all time

We should have batted when we won the toss and the reason given is one of the worst I've ever heard but the pitch is still in good nick if we just knuckle down. Our approach just seems to have been wrong in absolutely everything from selection onwards. Now our batsmen appear to be giving their wickets away!

1 wicket lost in 44.3 overs since Bamber was out, come on lads keep going, 8 extra points could be valuable as it's very tight at the top of div 1.

Some questionable decisions. Us with the toss and Yorkshire by not enforcing the follow on but not for the first time this season we’ve shown a lot of character. Just need to sort out the batting and hope Suthar shines at Taunton! Probably give Thompson another chance?
