I read on a Leics CCC forum that Ben Cox is heading in our direction next season. This could of course be spurious and frankly, I hope it is because signing another keeper in his mid 30s doesn’t make a lot of sense, unless he’s going to add significantly to our batting line up. I’m not sure Cox ticks that box.

I've got a lot of time for Cox, he's a good cricketer who was instrumental in the Pears Finals day win (50s in both games as i recall it) and a key part of their successful team at the time. That was nearly a decade ago, though, which makes this a very strange move. As you suggest, even at his best he was a number 6/7 in the batting lineup.

My take on the game was that we snatched victory from the jaws of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!!
I agree about Woakes being poor throughout the Blast . I also agree Smith should keep wicket for the rest of the season to see if he can make the improvement his game needs. In the Blast he really should bat higher up. If he had come in around 16th over he would have had time to settle and would then keep the scoring rate up. Instead what we got was a succession of singles that nearly lost us the game.
With the way we improved in the second half of the competition it's a pity we didn't just manage to qualify as I think we could easily have gone on to win it.

We want players dropped for consistently poor performances and then on the other hand we're almost overpromoting a lad here who keeps poorly in most games in which he takes the gloves and give him even more gametime? And im a huge fan of the lad.

Look, id have never signed Alex Davies, it's said on these boards at the time that he shouldn't necessarily walk into the side and I got scoffed at. However I think hes a very decent keeper as he demonstrated in the most recent 4day game at Taunton when he kept for 150+ overs in increasingly difficult conditions. We've seen him take catches and make stumping this season that Kai Smith simply cannot do. Do yet anyway.

Re. Cox, I can well believe we're in for another keeper. Davies batting has fell off a cliff, and Dandy (best pure gloveman at the club) doesn't appear to make runs in the 2's consistently enough at the moment.

Last night, what a finish! Mousley maturing as a versatile batter and he bowled well. Yates, no ton yet, but he's low key having a very decent season and looks generally in pretty good nick. If only we had Dan and Gleeson all comp...
