Liam Patterson White recieved an offer from us but has chosen to stay with Notts.

We are also vying with Notts for Leicestershire keeper Ben Cox.

I really hoped we would persuade Patterson-White to come to the Bears. A senior spinner/all rounder is a must for next season. Not sure why we need Ben Cox unless Davies is going.

Shame about Patterson-White but no great surprise. I do find the interest in Cox strange, unless as KoS suggests, perhaps Davies is on his way out. If we really want a seasoned pro, though, why not aim for John Simpson of Sussex, who I would suggest is a more accomplished overall player. With the issues at Sussex he may well be in the market for a new club but perhaps already has something lined up.

Looks as if Simpson is going to Notts.

Yes the interest in Ben Cox is interesting. I would have thought that we don't have a keeper problem. We've got an opening batsman problem. What would it mean if we did recruit him? Presumably, he comes in for Davies, Kai still has a view on the gloves long term and Dandy is coming through if it is eventually decided that Kai isn't a keeper. How old his Dandy, BTW? So we also need an opening bat from somewhere if we don't convert Malik. I would say Bethell in early season, but, you know how that will turn out.

Dandy is 19.

So not far away if he is to be a first team player - makes it even more intriguing if we're in the market for a keeper.

Well if it was a toss up between us and Notts and Simpson is headed to Trent Bridge, presumably that means Cox may well be headed our way. Cox may be a decent player but he’ll be 35 next year and has a FC career average of less than 30, much of it accumulated in division two. I’m afraid I don’t see this being a step forward for the team at all.

Might Cox come in as a wicket keeping coach and occasional player?

Perhaps a Batting Coach, we'll be short of one, come October? I don't know if he has done / is doing any Coaching badges, but Keepers often make good Batting Coaches, being in a position to closely examine batting techniques and success/failure! He has always been a decent batter himself.

We were linked with John Simpson around a month back (I think by George Dobell)

If it were a choice of Simpson or Cox I’d be much more interested in Simpson as a red ball keeper with Smith taking white ball duties.

If we’re after Cox then maybe it’s a sign that Davies will give up the gloves to focus on opening the batting?

Thing is Davies is a really, really decent gloveman, nobody seems to acknowledge this. Can't quite understand what the manoeuvring is, maybe Davies is finished with us? Maybe they don't see Kai as keeper? Neither Simpson or Cox will be long term solutions and as has been pointed out Cox never been a prolific run getter. Simpson a superb bat but will be 39 next season...

Was Cox one of the Worcestershire players involved in the Hepburn/whatsapp game that lead to Hepburns conviction?

If he was you have to wonder if his recruitment fits into the inclusive enviroment the club is aiming to provide.

Don't think so?

Was Clarke, Hepburn and TKC named.
