What is going on?
Ludicrous to persist with Davies and to leave Ali and Wylie out of the team. I just don't get the logic.
I presume we want to play four seamers and are suffering the lack of an all rounder with Ed being away. If we play 4 seamers and Taz/Jake the tail is too long, so we rely on Rob/Dan being the 5th bowler.
As for Alex I guess we are hoping he discovers some form before the return to county cricket. There is no second eleven cricket for him to find form him. If you drop him now then his season is pretty much over, which I know many think is the correct outcome.

That is an awful LBW decision against Mousley
Davies is doing that thing Troughton used to do when he was in bad form, visibly showing irritation at himself after the ball didn't go where he wanted. The exact opposite of leaving the last delivery in the past and going onto the next ball with a clear mind. You can't play well if you're having a minor tantrum at yourself every other delivery. Any runs he's getting he's getting them in spite of himself. That boundary off the free hit was the only free shot I can recall him playing
Need 40 off 45 with Davies 31 off43, I feel like Booth has to play a main role here because Davies hasn't had a sniff of going at a run a ball all day
Just to confound the critics Davies plays a valuable innings.
A pretty resounding performnce, all things considered and barring those late murmurs. Just goes to show that Davies can be effective, but it's taken such a while for that to be shown. Jani impressive and Mousley looking at home at the top of the order. He should continue to be available as there's no clash with a 100 game.
A small shame we couldn't race over the line just that little bit more to help boost the NRR but our small chances of qualification are alive.
Anyone thinking and describing that as a resounding victory, wasn’t there. There is also two descriptions of Davies’s innings, you can see it as being effective, and we could argue all night and not agree, but I’ll give my interpretation. I watched him, as the “batsman” take the Geoff Boycott approach, give the responsibility to someone else and get down the other end. In doing so, Kai Smith, George Garton, Michael Booth and Ethan Bamber all perished whilst Davies watched from the other end and took us within a Hairs Breath of defeat and a victory for Lancashire that they could only of dreamed of whilst Jani was at the crease.
From one who was there. Davies played an excellent innings - he set himself to be the one that stayed in whilst others had licence around him. It was clear that they had two objectives in mind. Firstly to win, and Davies made sure we did. Secondly to try and win quickly to boost the net run rate, which is why Davies pushed singles to get others (who are in better form) on strike to try to accelerate scoring.
Overall a good performance and result, but still concerned with Davies form with the bat.
Resounding victory?
Maybe not, but a record run chase at Rugby. We were in control of the chase all the way through. Slightly lost our way when Kai and George tried to accelerate and improve NRR, but overall a solid batting performance which we have not had many times this year

For me, Davies was the glue that held it together. Opinions eh!
I was also was calling for him to be dropped, but credit where due he held an end very well, a six for his first runs showed no lack of confidence, he got lucky early on but from then on in looked very assured.
Being at the game, one thing that was very noticeable was how much influence he seemed to have, always chatting to Yates and in the centre of group discussions. The one thing none of us can deny is his is experience, perhaps this is the reason for his continued selection, either way hopefully he can kick on.
Another really enjoyable day at Rugby.
He did also score a flurry of 3 fours towards the end when it was required so between him and Jani they won the game - I thought once Mousley was out we were done for.
That said I wouldn't renew Davies' contract and there are still issues in that XI (Gilchrist seems like a nothing signing and no front line spinner) but we've got a chance of qualifying which is more than I thought after the slow start!
Would be frustrating if we win tomorrow and just miss out on qualification, to almost mirror the T20 season.
Sadly, Davies is under contract until the end of 2027, but we can hope he requests to be released after this season.
