I was quite surprised to find we were still in the competition, I though the Leics game finished it. Would take some sequence of results tomorrow to happen though and some run rate swings.

Was at a wedding so missed all but a few balls of the Lancs game, seemed a good one though. Unpopular view re Davies is he has now scored more runs at a better average in the competition than Kai Smith, which muddies the water still further. One of the few overs I saw was Gilchrist's first and seemed very messy with two wides and a no-ball, hadn't seen Charlie Taylor show that so hopefully the latter can kick on and be a good player. Here's to a good game tomorrow v Kent.

Kai has actually scored more runs from less innings and at a better strike rate. While batting a lot lower, and having to sacrafice his innings at times to help the team situation.

Meanwhile, Hamza Shaikh is averaging 81 after seven games for Leicestershire.

Theo Wylie scored 65, on debut, which gives him a higher average any Malik & Davies combined or Jani.

We should remember that Shaikh chose to leave Warwickshire, he had obviously talking to other counties for several weeks before his loan move was agreed.

Shaikh reportedly left because he thought he would get more first team opportunities at Leicestershire - maybe we should have been giving him those chances. Whilst Wylie has a higher average (after just one innings), Shaikh has scored over 400 runs. The Bears' top run scorer is Jani with 276.

Jani has, in some games, taken advantage of the chances given to him, unlike Malik or Davies.

I do wonder how many runs Theo would have scored if he had been given more chances, and how many Ed Barnard and Sam Hain would have scored, but thats all hyperthetical.

Yes, this is really disheartening from a pure Warwickshire point of view. He seemed destined to be a first XI from a young age and then after a bit of bad form seemed to be dropped for a long time and announced he was leaving just before the One Day Cup, when he would no doubt have had a run of games.

I hope for him he kicks on and fulfils his potential and maybe one day he can come back if he does become a top player, as we put a lot of work into his development.

Attendance for this game was a record for Rugby of 2,179.
That would be like a drop in the ocean at Edgbaston but a good crowd for an out ground.

It's history now; but looking again at that lbw decision Martin Saggers gave against Mousley, I would say that the ball would have struggled to hit another three stumps. Delivered from round the wicket and pitching at best on leg stump, it was going way down the leg side.
