Would think if he has a decent Shield season and then goes well for us he'll be part of that Ashes squad, even as spare batter.

We definitely need a quality opening batsman. He has been really poor for the Aussies and is being dropped for the second test against Bangladesh due to form. Unlikely he will be called upon for them next summer.
I still want Big Beau to return but I suspect he will be part of the Ashes squad.
