As for Alleyne I remember him and Russell cheating against us at Lord’s. I was so angry I wrote to the ECB Head of OPs and had a reasonable letter back!

Only need three balls to get a bowling BP. 250 runs for a batting BP takes a bit longer. I'd say Notts approach was rational and they did want to prevent us getting a point which is same outcome as them getting 350. If Soms do draw it's still very tight, Essex might well force a win and they move up. Surrey could well be in trouble at the otnwr end if that happens...

We could only get batting points by getting to 250, that will take forever so Notts sacrificed trying to get another 25 runs for another batting point and deny us another bowling point so that they hope to get a few wickets for bowling points.

The games was decided D/L with Warwickshire so on top Donald got man of the match despite being in the losing team.

Presentation was made in bright sunshine when they could have easily kept playing. There was some archaic regulation that it had to be finished by a certain time (mainly so away teams could travel back earlier in the competition)

It was the quickest I have ever seen Donald bowl. His best ever spell for us and he was really fired up and gesticulating to our supporters.

I kinda feel as though it's could have got the extra 25 without losing another wicket, Sheat looked handy and Stone is an ok bat, and then still got amongst us. We've nothing to gain here from a Warwickshire perspective other than trying to not get out!

What exactly were Alleyne and Russell doing that constituted cheating? Was it a rain dance on the dressing room balcony?

Remember it, game went into the reserve day, Donald came on first change and had figures of 6-2-7-2, id never seen him quite so pumped up and he was always pumped up when playing for us.

Still very good isn't he, Olly Stone...

Notts could ask us to follow on, if you declare short of the follow-on margin, there has to be an agreement by the other captain that you can declare short of the 176 we need to avoid the follow-on.

Wisden has that wrong. I remember being stood in the outfield with my dad for the presentations yelling farce in bright sunshine. They called it off too early and at the instigation of Alleyne and Russell who clearly didn’t care about the crowd. We watched them doing it to boos in the Lord’s Tavern.

If it had continued Warwickshire would have won easily!

Gloucester used to do a dirty little trick that New South Wales used to do. After a batsman had hit the ball into the outfield, the fielder would chuck it in from such an angle that the batsman had to step out of his crease to avoid being hit, Russell then took the ball and ran out the batsman. I saw them get Darren Lehmann out this way when they played Yorkshire. It's a filthy bit of bad sportsmanship and they were not above it at all.

Yes, at times Russell would stand almost side by side with the batter and have the fielder throw the ball in, I remember a batter getting hit on one occasion in a televised game.

That looked a poor decision on Mousley.

I'm still not sure what "doing it" means. Respected umpires John Hampshire and Ray Julian would have made the decision about calling off the game; and it related not to bad light but to conditions underfoot - the Lord's drainage has undergone a complete transformation since 2000.

As mentioned it was a little known competition rule that the game had to be called off by a certain time. It was ridiculously early but was used so away sides could travel back earlier in the competition.

It was simply a case of waiting for recovery after a rain delay but rather than use common sense and entertainment the crowd who paid a fair chunk for tickets in those days the bureaucrats won the day after much agitation from Allleyne and Russell. This was why I wrote to the ECB and to be fair to the chap - Ormerod I think - he actually wrote back and agreed with me! There can’t be many games where a losing team bowler has won man of the match!

Back to the present - looks like we will be doing our best to avoid an innings defeat as looks quite likely we will be following on. Where is the rain when you need it?
