Weather doesn’t seem too bad, will hopefully be able to get a result. I wouldn’t change the side if everyone came through the last game without issues.
Imagine the only question will be whether Woakes is fit to play. Interesting that Booth is in the squad. This might suggest that we’re anticipating a seamer over Suthar-friendly conditions.
Whilst having to manage Woakes hernia symptoms, hopefully he can play here though. Maybe away at Essex is when we can rest him, could well be a case for bringing Taz in for that game.
On the topic of Woakes’ fitness and the earlier suggestion in another thread that the injury substitution rule offers a layer of protection for his selection, we are now the only remaining team who hasn’t used the rule - or indeed any form of replacement - this season!
I'm not totally sure how the injury sub rule works but I think if a player is replaced he has to sit out the next game. Is that right?
They are not allowed to play for another eight days.
If Woakes goes down he probably isn't going to be able to play for the next eight days so still works. It's very pragmatic having Thompson in the squad as he is like-for-like, but, just whisper it, not quite as good. Though this rule must acknowledge somewhere that replacing some players with like-for-like is impossible if one of them is the Brummie Botham.
He was a Brummie Botham but he's more like a Brummie Pringle these days. I hope he proves me wrong this week and smashes a hundred but his batting isn't what it was. Thompson very handy reserve player to have in this respect

Woakes perhaps lacked a lot of consistent cricket and probably being in the England set-up made his batting worse. He batted 8-9 and I doubt he was quite sure what his job was, bat with the tail or give it a bash. When he was with us before his Test career took off, he batted as high as and benefitted from cricket day-in-day-out. As soon as he played for England, he had less cricket and on tour often hardly played unless someone was injured. If he was fit enough for a whole season, I think we would see him back to batting like he used to. Notts, 3 down, good.
Just looked at the pics of the Notts game on YouTube. What are they playing at, looks as though someone has gone to The Crucible and taken the snooker table to pieces and laid it on the pitch. If the pitch is crap they should be penalised, Essex were late on in the season in 1989 and it cost them the title.
