I'd be prepared to give Malik a T20-only contract based on his results in that format, I felt his tryout as the free-scoring opener went pretty well with only one failure IIRC, but agree an all-format deal for him and Garton especially seems generous to say the least. The contract for Jani also seems a little generous based on his output being entirely in one format as I recall it.

When I first saw him several years ago in a pre-season game at Taunton, I thought he looked like a fantastic prospect - a lovely lithe action. I don't know why he hasn't made it at Edgbaston - but good luck to him. Gloucestershire could certainly do with some fresh talent.

To be able to get in the side you have to be fit for selection. It does help if you can score some runs &/or take wickets too.

Something that does seem irrellevant in the selection of some players, when the evidence, and the eye test, does suggest they are not playing well enough to be in the side.

I think two seasons dominated by injury and illness. He played a great game v Essex three years ago, was injured not long after then ill for a chunk of the season that followed and seems he's struggled to get back. I fear this is another of those cases where another county revitalises one of our exes but I think you're right that Simmons deserves a bit of luck.
