I'm not sure what George Garton was doing on the pitch for the championship celebrations going the full John Terry. I didn't know he had any whites. Has he ever played a first class match for the Bears?

Yeah I did wonder...he has done sub fielder a couple of times...

ha, they must be very, very clean

Not sure what he is actually doing at a club like ours, his record in all formats is poor, first-class bowling 2 wickets per game at 37, T20 less than a wicket per game and economy rate over 9 and list A less than a wicket per game and an economy of 6.3. ????????

it almost seemed to me that Garton (and possibly Jordan Thompson too) was picked simply by virtue of the fact that he had played in the 100 and other franchise comps (they both had a single season in the Big Bash I believe), plus in GG's case he ticks that left arm/hand box

his reputation at that point seemed to be more on the cricketer he looked like he could be than the cricketer he actually was.

in his best moments he's a very 'memorable' cricketer, isn't he, when its swinging he's bowling hooping 84ph stuff, if he's on with the bat he's hitting big spectacular sixes, oh and of course he's a pretty good fielder with an absolute cannon of an arm. all the kind of stuff that can make people overlook his actual productivity as they fall in love with his potential.

With his batting positions in the seconds, i.e. opening, and being played as a specialist batsman in the ODC, my take is they're viewing him as a bit of a project with the bat to be a genuine all rounder next season.

He's the living example of the phrase "celebrate what he can do rather than what he can't" and as ITE says there is a lot he can do. The club seem to be able to re-habilitate one bowler per season and if it is Garton for next year then he ticks the missing left armer position, the quick bowler and the useful runs at eight category. It's easy to see why they invest in him - but indeed the selectors must have a point at which they decide to pull the plug if the output doesn't improve. He's due a chance and he has never played first team red ball for us.
