Ah, a historic double for Somerset with both the men's and women's player coming from them, despite neither team winning anything.

I bet the voting for Overton came very shortly after he had that T20 QF innings against Yorkshire. Which by the way contained some if not many of the ugliest fking boundaries I have ever seen, I mean it was freakish, he must have got about 12 boundaries and I swear 10 of them were so ugly you couldn't appreciate them or admire anything about them, cross-batted slogs over the bowler's head, and nasty muscled swipes of short slow balls outside off stump going anywhere from backward point to long on, absolutely everything with the bottom hand, nothing even timed that well off the bat just, ugh, like some caveman batting with a stone club.

Even if I liked him that spectacle would have been distasteful. I can't help objecting to batsmen whose only virtue is 'mugh, me big muscles, me hit ball, ball go far'. Though I will concede in a cricketer not named Overton my reaction would perhaps have been less pronounced.

The Player of the Year is the result of players' votes. Past (Warwickshire) winners are Chris Woakes in 2020 and Neil Carter in 2010.

ITE7376 - I know what you mean, I was fed up with hearing about Chris Gayle and his double hundred in a 50-over World Cup v Zimbabwe, especially after seeing it. He barely got one 6 off the middle of the bat, the ground was small, the bowling was no better than club level and it was a really ugly innings full of swipes from a strong individual.

Ah OK fair enough

Carter in 2010 is an interesting one. Did he have a particularly good year that year? I know he was very good in the T20 at least (bowling wise at least, his white ball batting by then was poor once teams used the simple expedient of bowling spin at him) but POTY surprises me.

Carter and Woakes kept us up that year.
