The moans by Kent supporters in 1911 were what probably lay behind one of the most famous Punch cartoons (of which I have a framed copy).
It's headed Two Gentlemen of Warwickshire and depicts Frank Foster talking to William Shakespeare and quoting from Henry VI part two:
"Tell Kent from me she hath lost"
To which Shakespeare responds (quoting from Henry VI part 3):
"Warwick, thou art worthy."

PS - a moan from me - Sam Hain doesn't get into the BBC team of the season:

But because it was decided by public vote, maybe those of us who didn't vote are to blame.

I voted for Rob Yates too, on account of his catches. There was no obvious way to give proper weight to this.

Yes Gerry, I think there was a copy of that in the old members bar. I would like to think that it is somewhere in the ground, who knows, it might be in the museum.

Wonderful post earlier Paul.

Unfortunately on top of everything else cricket writing is probably at a lower standard than it has even been in 2026.

Thank you Bos, as you might imagine, my memory is the one thing that rarely lets me down. I remember things from years ago and in great detail and although it's useful, it does really irritate some people who can't even remember what they had for breakfast.

As Mark Twain said, I can clearly remember events from my youth: whether they happened or not!

looks like all of Abell, Clarke and Bedingfield scored more runs than he did, to be fair

The latters just gotta get thru this...

hahaha good pickup

when we were playing Durham in the T20 i think 2025 season, Durham and specifically Bedingham started the innings with a bang and I texted my mate that 'whilst this Bedingham lad is on fire we just gotta get through this' which he really didn't appreciate as much as it deserved because it was a brilliant corny joke obviously, but of course since then he has stuck in my head as Daniel Bedingfield. I mean I can't even remember what his actual first name is at all, now.

I'm not sure I would want to be on the side of Kevin Pietersen in any argument - but here he is pitching in about the cricket media:

And if KP's comments are hidden behind the paywall, the "highlights" are:
"The best thing about this is I have no responsibility for listening to and reading your rubbish," he said to the media during England's ODI series with Sri Lanka."
Ben Stokes gave an interview to Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler in their For the Love of Cricket podcast.
“The new journalistic landscape in full flow today," tweeted KP. "Ben Stokes chooses a player-owned (sic) media business for an exclusive. It's virtually game over for the old, and it's certainly evolving quicker than we think…! Huge congratulations to Broady and Jos for doing such a good job."

Never liked 'My Way' or Sinatra but if that ever gets heard by me, I will think of that piece of film. So pleased to be there for all the days. That 2nd day was special, Sam with his 'I am staying here as long as possible and as long as I am here, we will be well ahead of the game' innings and a good day then, meant we would win at some stage. I filmed it on my camcorder (Yes, I still have one and still miles better for quality and editing) and got loads of photos as well.

Not directly related to being champions - but the BBC county championship cricket live text page got 27.8 million views in 2026, which is 464,000 per day.
