Is it just me, or are others pi**ed off by all these 'dodgy' posters we seem to have inhabiting our site ?! All with very obvious 'troll' names. I hope Admin can do something about them.

I agree that it's annoying. But as Exiled Bear said a few days ago, all he can do is delete and block them when it happens - unless anyone has other suggestions as to what can be done.

Many sites have a multi tiered authentication process for beconng a member, or place new members on "moderation, so their posts have to be approved by a moderator before been published.

So there are options available to deal with the issue.

I agree that it’s annoying (trust me, there are far better things for me to be doing than deleting posts and banning users) but as it’s only an average of about one spam post every couple of days at the moment, and I’ve just started a new job in a different country, forgive me if I don’t put it at the top of my priority list at the minute! I will try to look into it at some point but for the time being everyone will have to put up with it I’m afraid

I hope that everyone can go along with this because Exiled Bear put in a huge amount of work to get this Forum up and running and then to keep it going. Compared with that, the annoyance caused by the sight of the occasional "dodgy" post is surely something that we can cope with.

I read that opening post and got a bit self conscious for a moment, haha!

Now that Exiled Bear has elevated me to the title of Super Moderator, I have the super power of being able to delete spam posts. So between Exiled Bear and I, we should be able to get rid of offending posts pretty quickly and E B will banish the offending posters from the site.

It seems the spammers have now developed a footwear fetish :-)

Personally I appreciate all the effort that has gone into starting and running the forum. A few silly messages are not going to put me off from visiting!

Is it now time to put in place our own sanctions - over Russian posters?!

It seems our spammers have got over their footwear fetish and feel we now need drugs for ED :-)

Looking at the number of registered users, I think we're going to get more Russian 'spammers' on the Forum than Bears fans soon (unless we have a huge, mainly untapped, support in Russia !?). About one a day being added. They've even started showing .ru in their username. Streetly talks about silly messages not putting him off, I largely agree, but I am concerned about the sheer number of non-Cricket posters that could be on the site - and uncertain as to what is the point of them coming on. I guess the attraction, is a site named after (what they think are Russian) Bears !

I hadn't thought about the Russian Bear connection!
At least we haven't had a Mr. V. P. of Moscow posting yet. And all those who have posted spam messages (Russian or otherwise) have been banned so are not still on the site.

I have been deleting some of the earlier spammers, but don't want to delete the more recent ones just yet as it means that they can sign up again with the same email address. If I can find a way to block them in the first place then I can delete them later.
