Need to win here if we're gonna challenge...

Robbo confirmed no Woakes for this game.

Sounded more positive on Norwell.

No word on Lamb.

I will be there for all 4 days so I DEMAND a performance of the standard v Essex. They are not a good side so I don't want us lowering to their standards like we have done against other counties in the past.

I suspect it will come down to if Norwell is fit and how we bowl as a unit. Need to take wickets with the new ball. Can’t keep letting sides get good opening partnerships.

There’s runs in the batting, we just need to turn those starts into big scores, and get a bit more luck in terms of some umpiring decisions that have done against us against Lancs and Somerset.

The Woakes situation is so frustrating. What is the issue? Surely Norwell will return??

Lamb and Norwell added to the squad that drew with Lancs.

I can’t see them changing the batting. So suspect Lamb stays out, and then Norwell in for Miles.

Full squad:-
Davies, Sibley, Yates, Hain, Rhodes, Lamb, Benjamin, Burgess, McAndrew, Briggs, Miles, Norwell and OHD

Lamb will be in for Benjamin, surely.

Sibley
Yates
Rhodes
Hain
Lamb
Benjamin
Burgess
Briggs
McAndrew
Norwell
OHD

Is how I'd go. I appreciate Rhodes up to 3 might be odd but he has gone up there before.

I would change the batting personally. But I don’t think they will; because I think if they change it, they cause themselves some awkward issues. Like dropping Benjamin, after he’s scored in 1 match about the same as Rhodes has all season. And probably not too far behind Yates and Davies either.
Suspect that’s not a question or situation they want to invite upon themselves.
Let’s be honest if it weren’t for him being captain Rhodes would be out, and I suspect they’d play the extra bowler and have Burgess at 6 like last season. As Rhodes hasn’t delivered with Bat or Ball, and it’s causing a real lack of balance in the side. They’ve felt a bowler short all year, which is ok if you’re scoring plenty, but they’ve been carrying some of the batsmen too.

Agreed, and glad you used the word 'Batsmen' too.

Apparently he is injured but strangely was included in the squad. Slightly concerned about his continued absence.

Good to see Matt Lamb is included.

First hour down, and once again the opposition building a good opening partnership.
Though I did think OHD had Young absolutely plumb LBW early on.

It’s just a recurring pattern, OHD comes out and the pressure is lifted, and there’s limited threat.

Not impressed this morning. Expensive, unthreatening, and samey. Too many extras as well.

Early in the season I know but it is very quickly turning into a huge anticlimax after last year.
