Just looked at the scorecard, Woakes 67 from 97 balls. Also saw the name Maddy and thought "Surely not, he's still playing and involved with the 2nds", but it was the 2nd XI keeper.

Darren Maddy's son, George !

Yep, CW got 67, Dan Mousley, 125 (opening again - why he's not playing for the 1st's against Northants, I've no idea) and (Captain) Jake Lintott, 52 (again, surely, if Briggs was out, he should have been in at Northampton, as front line spinner ?).

Of more concern is why isn't Rob Yates playing in this game? his red ball average of 12.81 suggests he needs time in the middle.

I agree - if he is fit, you would expect him to be playing.

Why is Dan Mousley not being selected for the first team? Seems ridiculous.

The coaches obviously thought that Jacob Bethell desreved the opportunity to play in the championship game.

Based on red ball performances so far this season, a sensible and logical decision.

I think we’ve seen by Bethells performances though that without doubt the talent is there. But the step up from England u19’s and second XI to first team county cricket is huge.

Unless he's given the chance, he like any other young player, will not be able to develop into a regular first team player.

He has actually bowled well at Northampton today, you can actually see him learning and gaining confidence the longer he bowls.
