This should turn out to be an excelelnt signing, a pace bowling all rounder, who is good in the field and with the bat.
I can see him batting about 7 or 8 and bowling first change for many years.

A lot of us mentioned earlier in the year that McAndrew was the Tim Bresnan replacement (who in turn I guess was the Ricky Clark replacement) so Barnard is the McAndrew replacement. Good bit of business, means we can focus on a left arm pace bowler as our overseas next year.

Agreed that it is likely to prove an excellent signing - and a big loss for the Pears.
He probably fills the slot currently occupied by Nathan McAndrew as a bowling all-rounder - or maybe the (belated) replacement for Keith Barker, though without the added advantage of bowling left arm.
There must be one or two of the existing pace bowling squad who will be feeling a bit vulnerable right now.

As a Shropshire Lad this is excellent news for him.

No wonder the Pears played so badly the other night. The Moen story was a bit of a red herring perhaps?

Ed Barnard hit his highest ever list A score of 85 not out today in a losing cause against Hampshire.

Yeah good player, his bowling has dropped off a touch but his batting has improved massively. He might bat 6 for us.

Just to emphasise what a good signing he could be, he got the following awards at the Pears' End of Season Dinner:
He was voted the Worcestershire Supporters’ Association Player of the Year and Worcestershire Players’ Player of the Year, He also collected the Worcestershire Cricket Society Moment Of The Season Award for his unbeaten 163 versus Nottinghamshire.
As an aside, the Kenyon Award for the best match performance during the 2022 season went to ex-Bear Ed Pollock for his match-winning 113 off 77 balls against Middlesex in the LV= Insurance County Championship.

Totally agree. Gave the club the benefit of the doubt over recruitment of the overseas Nathan McAndrew this season but this makes far more sense all formats too but especially championship cricket he'll chip in in several ways.

May enable Will Rhodes to go back to opening if they're that way inclined as would ease his need for bowling

As part of the presentation ceremony for the One Day Cup Final, it was announced that Ed Barnard was the Player of the Tournament - very well deserved!

He really did do incredibly well. At a time too when supporters were turning on him a little bit. A few people on here wanted him dropped after the Middlesex game, I felt that was harsh at the time and feel it utterly preposterous now!

Seems like people questioning his place in the side and Ed himself acknowledging he could do more, has really helped him.

Constructive criticism isn't a bad thing...
