I wonder if now is the time to ditch the T20 Birmingham nomenclature and return to Warwickshire Bears? I must admit, the ‘Birmingham’ title has never overly concerned me, but with the launch of the Butterkist Birmingham Phoenix, now may be a good time to avert any confusion.

After Friday’s wonderful conclusion I noticed on several social media accounts, supporters (who I assume are 100 followers) seemed to be linking/confusing the county cricket club and the franchise team who played at Edgbaston.

During the live feed commentary last week, one of our lot referred to the side as the Bears, which we are, and it was Anthony Gibson (I think, welcome to be corrected) who said 'Actually that's the name of the one day side isn't it?' and had to have it explained to him that the Bears was the nickname for the whole club.

Edit: My point being to demonstrate that clearly there is some confusion.

I agree that it would be entirely logical to change the name back now that Birmingham Phoenix exists as an entity. But logic doesn't always win the argument and I suspect that there are 20 million reasons why the name Birmingham won't be dropped - as in the £20 million that the Club owes to Birmingham City Council.

Always hated the Birmingham Bears T20 name and would love us to return to the name Warwickshire even if it does have Bears after it. Seems stupid to have 2 Birmingham sides. It is county cricket after all and if they want towns/cities/boroughs, they can save it for The Hundred and other assorted tosh.

I was expecting the change this year to be honest. Noticed during the 2020 Blast the Birmingham part of the name was rarely used and most of the social media activity was on the Warwickshire accounts.

Sadly not the case but I'd definitely change it back moving forward now there is a Birmingham team in the Hundred, surely that's enough to keep the council happy.

Great to be back on here I thought this forum had died.

It is time they properly played as Warwickshire again.

It's not good enough to confuse the issue by using Warwickshire twitter and calling the team Bears.

I can't think of any other sports team in the world which plays a competition under a different name. its ridiculous and demeaning.

It will gain a lot of goodwill and hopefully increase crowds next year.

We seem to be at a halfway house where the word Birmingham has been discreetly dropped but the word Warwickshire hasn't been added. Maybe next year, the W word will creep back in - but I'm not holding my breath.

We could always keep nagging away to the management about it and you never know. I kept nagging them about having just 'Edgbaston' on the front of the ground and said we need to have the name of the club on the front and it is absolutely ridiculous not to. It did appear eventually and I am not taking any credit but at some point someone must have addressed the problem and I would like to think that others kept chipping away to get the name of the club on the building. Imagine Old Trafford on the front of the stadium and no reference to Manchester United. So come on Gerry, write 1000 letters to the committee but all with different names put to them, it won't take you long, stamps might cost a bit though.

Spot on Paul.

At one stage the letterheads only had Edgbaston on them but now they do have WCCC. Although calling it Edgbaston Stadium is obviously a nonsense.

I think they know what they did is wrong and the branding from a professional point of view is very confused.

Birmingham City Council should help them out and say there is no pressure to play as Birmingham.

As for pressuring the Executives I can't see the point of the Members' committee unless it consistently raises this issue.
