Cain's interview with the Mail didn't throw up too many surprises, but there was one thing that stood out. We're leaving it late to sign a second Overseas player. I guess a batsman - possibly one who might offer a backup spin option?

I don't know about a batsman who could offer a spin option, I do agree that any second Overseas signing, could be a batter though. Cain didn't indicate if it might for red ball - we obviously still need an Overseas player for T20 (though of course we do usually go for an all rounder).

I think you could make the argument for a batsman or a bowler.
But for a second overseas, they have to be worth the money and GUARANTEED to perform. If you look around a lot of counties there seems to be overseas signed because they’re overseas. Not because they’re particularly good. Seems to be a lot of second rate Australians getting deals.
If you can’t get a player good enough to contribute worth his salary, play a talented youngster, save that money for better domestic recruitment.

I agree. Difficult to know if it is Mr Cain or the journalist who is probably transcribing his words from a recorded interview. It certainly doesn't make the best sense.
