Hasan for the injured Rushworth.

Still no Hain? Surprised after he made appearance as sub v Durham on day 4.

Dukes ball back.

No Keith Barker. Appears Hampshire will line up with the same XI that drew with Lancashire.

A ground we've traditionally struggled on though we did win there last season.

It's interesting that Hampshire have kept Brad Wheal in the squad, even though he has been sent on loan to Glamorgan. They have said that they could call him back at any time up to when the coin is tossed - which might lead to a high speed journey.

Team as expected, only change from the Durham game, is Hassan in for Rushworth.

We won the toss and (obviously, with the Kookaburra) chose to bat first. Of course, with this game (as with all except one this season), it is very likely there will be no result, other than a draw!

It's the Dukes ball this round.

Is Highveld waiting for a sub 100 opening partnership before posting?

I’d like to think he is actually happy with the scores….but let’s see!

It is a refreshing change to see a couple of good opening partnerships! Long may it continue!

Great start again, shame about the constant buffering on the feed.

If Davies and Yates aren't careful we will come to expect a century opening partnership every time. When the first wicket falls below a ton certain members will start moaning about the captain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They've always compared fairly favourably in comparison to some other regular openers.

The openers stability is definitely welcome after a lot of inconsistency.
What’s clear is moving to 3, really messed with Yates and it took some time to rebuild that confidence.
Davies has seemingly stopped getting himself out, last couple of years he was getting a start then playing a stupid shot.

Tea, 202-1, we will have some of that, thank you. Great start. Well done again AD, no matter how popular he is or isn't, getting runs won't hurt one bit.

I was being tongue firmly in cheek following comments over past year or two on this forum. It looks so far that being captain suits Davies - how many times in cricket does becoming captain affect a batsman's game. I know a swallow (or even 2) does not make a summer but this is a great start to the season.

It’s interesting how the captaincy really drags some players down.
Don’t have to look further than Rhodes performances the last year or 2. Root and Cook both struggled.
Yet others seem to thrive under the extra responsibility.

Well if it makes Davies and Rhodes better batsmen then it's genuis/long may it continue!

Shame about the late wickets but still an excellent day. Hopefully we can push on tomorrow morning and get to 400 for the fourth batting point at least. 110 runs in 14 overs for maximum bonus points is probably a stretch too far!

A lot of pissing about this morning and to miss out on the bonus point for 400 is poor.
