Two recent old Bears contributed to a somewhat one-sided match in NZ yesterday:

Keith Barker seems to have followed in the footsteps of that other ex-Bear, Chris Wright, in getting banned somewhat harshly for a technical infringement:

Congratulations to ex-Bear Adam Hose on his double century today: 266 v Hampshire.
Also Dom Sibley: 169 v Durham and still batting.

Glad to see that Adam Hose has made such a success of his move:

To be fair, I recall that he was given quite a few red ball opportunities with the Bears and didn't really take advantage of them.

There was a period from May 2018 til about July 2019 when he got the nod over Matt Lamb for every 4day game. I think it affected both players negatively as it meant Hose struggled for over a year and Lamb got dropped having not really done a lot wrong. Another example of a player recruited from elsewhere getting favourable treatment over a homegrown lad.

Fair play to Adam on this award though, lovely bloke.

And he's signing the book:
"Former England star Ashley Giles will be here at Edgbaston on Tuesday 22 July during the Warwickshire v Worcestershire County Championship match.
Ashley, who played 54 Test Matches 62 One Day Internationals, will be signing copies of his autobiography 'The King of Spain and I' during lunch and tea in the Tom Dollery Lounge, where you can also purchase the book."

I was at the Cheltenham Festival yesterday and had the privilege of meeting Bob Barber (90 later this year) who spoke warmly about his days at Edgbaston and about his old Warwickshire and England captain, M.J.K. Smith.
I also met Andy Moles who spoke about the early 1990s team that won everything and how they had a culture of everybody wanting everybody else to succeed.
A good crowd at the Festival and some interesting cricket played.

the 990's squad were a group of players who, mainly grew up together, had long term overseas players, and did not have mercanries coming in to play, or not play, just one form of cricket.

They also had a captain who led by example.

Let's hope that Adam Hose makes a good recovery from his injury - a dislocated ankle.
A report says: "Hose, who plays for the Trent Rockets, slipped as he tried to make a catch. He was left on the floor in agony with fans saying it was "one of the most terrible injuries I've seen on a cricket field". Medics rushed over to him and a screen was held up while he received treatment. After a delay of ten minutes, Hose was carried off and taken to hospital."

Yes, just saw it on BBC cricket site, thought he might have a season in division 1 but alas.... He was a good signing in 2011, it seems like 5 minutes ago he came for the last 3rd of the season and made an impact straight away after Giles didn't appear to rate him but Welch talked him into it. It was so near in 2011 but he and Barker formed one of our very best opening bowling attacks, never letting anyone get off to a good start and that penultimate game at Worcester in 2012 on the first morning was sublime.

Great lad, super bowler, particularly between joining us on loan in 2011 and 2014 after which i felt the injuries took a bit of a toll on him. Was absolutely rapid in 2012 and 2013, his bouncer was lethal, genuinely sharp. 90mph. In summer 2013 he was extremely close to an Engalnd call up, got injured though. In 2013 v Durham at home James Whittaker, England selector at the time, turned up and insisted to Warwickshire that Wright be bowling between lunch and tea. He ended up bowling something like a 9 over spell. Week later, stress fracture.
