Norwell has only bowled three overs thus far. As I’m only following on bbc sport can anyone watching the stream see if he is still on the field? I hope he isn’t injured.

This is bizarre. Turns out on a cricket pitch that is offering swing and seam, when you pitch it up and keep a tight line you get wickets and bowl dot balls.
But when you bang it in half way down, or bowl both sides of the stumps, you get smacked to the boundary.

Who knew?

Pope has just thrown away a certain ton, an absolute gift for Wheal.

What has happened to Johal? He made such a promising debut last year.

It’s early in his time with us, but the new bowling coach is certainly not having much of a positive effect.

Looks bad on Brookes, Johal, Garrett and Miles when they're all fit and available but we've had to get someone in on loan.

To be fair to the bowlers, they're trying hard and keeping us in the game, and Mc Andrew was more than bit unlucky when the ball hit the stumps but failed to dislodge the bails. To add insult to injury the ball then went to the boundary for four byes!

A quick comparison of boudaries tells its own story though, both in terms of intent and confidence - in 104.4 overs we mustered 31 boundaries, so far Surrey have hit 39 plus 2 sixes in 53 overs.

See my post on Page 2 of this thread. Brookes, Johal and Garrett all been bu**ered up by the Coaching regime they encounter beyond Academy level (IMO !). And don't get me started on the paucity of 1st team Batting Coaching !

Anyone got any insight on why JOverton hasn't batted yet? Got some good runs in the test recently...

A very good comentary team today, including Richard Wilford and the excellent Jeremy Coney.

Overton has a hand injury.

Not been able to knock over the Surrey tail is going to cost us big time.

I love that Briggs went out with Sibley.

Got to say I was disappointed by the bowling.
The boundary count being so heavily towards Surrey showed how many bad balls we bowled on a pitch that was clearly offering plenty. And having them 8 down for basically the same score for them to get a 60 run lead could be crucial.
Only time will tell, but I think the bears got a decent score on that pitch and Surrey have been massively let off the hook.

Hated being behind by so much but then again, we could have been behind by about 30 and gone in a after a tricky 11-12 overs and been 20-2.

Get Allan Donald in as the bowling coach. A true bear through and through. The current coach hasn't progressed some decent bowlers this year, get rid!

AD was a great bowler but just because he played for us doesn’t mean he would be a great bowling coach.

Matt Mason came with a big reputation from his time down under, he had a very good article written about him on cricinfo…if I was more tech savvy I would include it. The way this season has gone he has certainly not appeared to live up to that reputation.

Playing devils advocate here but we have had lots of ‘true bears’ in the coaching set up and many people have complained about an old boys network and have spoken in favour of having an outsider come in.

Personally I just don’t think we should have allowed Welch to leave and should have gone all in to keep him here.

This is probably the Matt Mason article referred to:
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/county-championship-2022-matt-mason-brings-his-midas-touch-from-western-australia-to-warwickshire-1309439
I seem to remember that The Hollies (the group, not the stand) had a song called King Midas in Reverse, which I hope won't turn out to be Matt Mason'e theme tune.
