Some really positive batting from the tail enders, Wagner was very impressive. Always been a fan of his, would like him as our overseas for next year.

Not sure the bowling was that bad, notice we are a very quiet side, bit of pumping each other up might have kept the momentum going.

I think the quietness has more to do with the fact that realistically there’s nothing on the line for either side. Hard to get up for a game where it’s cold and damp, you expect it to be a rain effected draw, and you’ve nothing to gain from it. To the players third, fourth or fifth makes very little difference.
Seen them noisy as a group before, but typically when they’re still challenging for something.

Is there any prize money up for grabs for third place?

Edit: Last season it was £290k for second place and £145k for third, so I guess it’ll be something similar this season

Pleased were not an overly noisy side remember the Hampshire sides with Shane Warne. Can't think of a particularly noisy side these days maybe a couple of counties that play with two spinners. Most are very professional and performance oriented these days

Same old story again, letting a good position go. Good job it's not an important last game as we have had in the last 2 seasons.

Yep fair point. I think the last session was more about very good batting than anything we did/should have done.

All our Overseas batsmen have been poor in recent years (though Malan did improve towards the end and Pandya never had much chance before injury). The All Rounders have been a mixed bag (McAndrew & Maxwell did better batting than they did bowling and Brathwaite was so hit and miss - literally !). The bowling choices have been generally OK - last season, Yadav & Siraj and this, Hasan Ali. I wonder whether the fact that our First Team Coach was a bowler, might lead him to be a better judge on that side ? Someone definitely needs to sort out any Overseas batting choices next year - perhaps Larsen might do better.

45 runs in 6 innings is a dreadful record.
The problem is - how can you judge in advance if someone is going to succeed? Brathwaite’s track record would have suggested that he would have scored runs.

Our openers have got out to 2 absolute pearlers. That ball Yates got shaped in then seamed away, i mean what can you do. Tough gig this opening lark.

I think we need that third place slot to prove we have had a good season. 4th seems mid table to me, 3rd you can say you're at the top and it would also demonstrate that we have started to heed that message that we can play in must-win games for them to ruminate on in the off season.

I guess Davies and Rhodes next is a key session with the ball getting older. In all the games this round the new ball has done massive damage, even if it's been later in the day, so here's to hoping. 400 for four batting points is a stretch target. That would put us ahead of Hampshire on the assumption both teams are weather-induced draws.

Seems easier to actually win the game. I remember reading somewhere that BPs don't tend to determine champo places and that would be the case here.

Dissapointing to come off. Whilst it's certainly far from ideal, it is not dangerous. The Somerset attack is hardly rapid, keep playing as long as you can.

Bit harsh..4 games in September is difficult for an opener to acclimatise

At the time I thought it was a great signing, not worked out this time. Some you win some you lose..

Please explain when they come off for bad light I can see the umpires casting a single shadow indicating that is caused by the sun

Davies getting more luck in this one innings than some players get all season. Won’t complain though, about time some luck went our way.

Here's my take on yesterday's play:

As for today - it's a bit chilly!

Given the Hampshire position we need 350 minimum here it seems to me.

Yah, see my comment earlier up the stream about needing 400... Tough ask. It's good to be pushed like this though and the last game was the same re Hants. Appreciate people's comments that the players aren't fussed about 3rd v 4th position but for us hardcore it's a good watch and reflection on the CC.

I think the players care about finishing as high as they can, but it’s not a motivating factor if that makes sense.
You don’t give pre-match speeches about finishing 3rd typically. It’s not something that will be putting pressure on them like previous last matches of the season. If we get third here you won’t see huge hugs and players charging around.
