Unfortunately they have Abbott.....
And Davies playing in one day mode when there's loads of time left in the game.
Based on his first couple of shots, it looks like Davies is trying to get them before lunch.

Could be close to over by lunch time
Ye of little faith!!
Yes, keep the faith - we can win this!
Hoping Hain can hang around for another couple of hours, he's due a big score today.
Oh Sam, what have you done there?
That looked a bit high to give out for me. Hain looked as though he was going to get a decent score today.
Umpire gave that out so quickly...

Yeah very dubious..
That was too high again
At least Webster looked plumb - looking a bit difficult now.
That was very high, these umpires have been poor all game for both sides, they don't know what their giving.

Really? I thought it was well over
Glad to get away from there now, always did find Hampshire very irritating but with the whooping and hollering, they are the loudest side along with Surrey, perhaps it's a Southern thing. A few debatable decisions and I thought it looked good until Hain was given out (He does appear to get some awful umpiring decisions) as Hampshire were always going to benefit from Abbott's opening spell and despite a rare outing of wickets from Fuller, they do look average without their big Springbok. We lost it in the last session of the first day and have been playing catch-up ever since and only 3 points to show from this.
As mentioned by others, it was the final session of the first day that really gave them the advantage
Unless Woakes is fit I'd go with the same side. Hain needs to start converting his starts
When we were 10/2 with Latham out the writing was on the wall. Disappointing from Ed Barnard and Webster looked comfortable until he was dismissed. Hain was looking more comfortable but left a ball that jagged back for lbw. It mainly boils down to a poor first innings where we fell 40 or 50 short and their tail got too many.
I think the team has an unbalanced look about it with Malik batting at 7, I would like to see Kai Smith back in at 7 and given another chance with the gloves on Friday. I also have a feeling that Rushworth will be in instead of Simmons. Quite why Simmons only bowled 9 overs out of 143.2 in the match only Davies can answer, but if he doesn't have faith in the youngster then why play him in the first place?
I have nothing against Davies, but i honestly believe Latham would be a much better choice as captain.
