We have a 13 man squad, in view of the conditions, I'd have Kain keeping wicket and omit Taz and Zen.
Looks like high winds all day, could be a day without cricket.
Wind stopped play is a new reason.
The team curry night the day before a game was never a good idea :-)
I suppose it serves them right playing this late in the year!
Right now, there is play in only one out of nine Championship matches. So some well-earned rest for those sadly over-worked players.
Years ago we would be done and dusted by now and if we do get cricket anywhere, it will be with a few layers on and everyone will say, "Do you remember June....". Utterly ridiculous, wonder how many injuries are cause through early season starts and ends with players struggling to keep warm as the cold and wind whistles through them. Get rid of The Hundread and we wouldn't have this.
And tomorrow Cain will tell the members’ forum how much we lose hosting every Championship game. Is it any wonder when it is being played in week days at the end of September? I was tempted to go over tomorrow but given the lack of progress in the match and the likely weather it really isn’t appealing.
Weather can be very decent in September. Don't feel like we've had a good September since 2021 though. I remember us playing Hampshire at home and Somerset at home in practically unbroken sunshine.
Test match this time next year at Edgbaston right?
I remember seeing us clinch the treble at Bristol in 1994 and it was absolutely freezing!
As someone with a September birthday it can be ok but the mornings and evenings are always cold!
Cricket season really should be over by now!
I remember 2019 being a decent September too, I always remember that marathon 9 hour knock by Matt Lamb v Essex and the weather being really nice. 2022, 2023 and 2024 were poor though, particularly grey with the light drawing in earlier and earlier. Think playing September is OK but maybe only the first couple of weeks, having games start on the 24th etc is crazy. However Richie Benaud (i think?) used to say we should play in October, reasoning it was a better month weatherwise than April. Not too sure about that.
Play finally called off for the day.
2019 Trent bridge away was lovely and a smashing game Notts were sent down. Sibley tons in both innings including a double ton. The following week there wasn't a ball bowled I don't think for the final game against Lancs. September's can be okay and one season I think it was the other way around where the final game was played in nicer weather than the games preceding it. Issue mainly is the light though so given we are safe from the drop I hope they just get on with it and get through the overs quickly this week and next.
Oh yes, i think Somerset at home early Sept was nice too that year. That game right at the end was Yorkshire at home, played on day 1 then it threw it down for months.
