The Davies/Kai/keeping situation is a problem, Davies is obviously a walking wicket right now but Kai's keeping is miles off. Does Davies drop down to 7?!

I definitely think he needs to be taken away from the new ball but I also suspect his ego would violently object to his being dropped down the order.

Surely even with his ego he can accept that he's struggling big time right now and that dropping down the order is better than being dropped completely?

I think that we have to start concluding that we are just not good enough, I am sick of reading that we always seem to get the rough end of the stick on the toss or that the pitch has flattened whenever we bowl. We don't & it hasn't.

Bamber just taking Brookes wicket as I type but he has been very expensive this morning & Brook has chucked that wicket away, just like we did on several occasions.

This makes no sense after only 4 games and the current game could still very much go either way.

Agree, not perfect, still issues (need a #3, finishing teams off) but definite signs of progress

This has been said for the last few seasons and we have failed to put in any kind of challenge. Our top under crumbles under pressure and it always seems to be on Haine, Barnard & the tails to give us a total. OHD has dug us out of the brown stuff once again this morning after being sent off to Worcester on loan. We struggle to take 20 wickets consistently despite having more seam bowlers than I can ever remember.

You can absolutely see why Yorkshire have struggled over the last couple of seasons the way that they have chucked at least 4 of their wickets away & despite bowling us out for next to nothing, they have a very average journeymen attack. Yes we are still in this game but you have to look at the standard of the opposition as well.

Not having any indication that we are. Winning draws against the top two from last season, a win against Essex and a close loss to Sussex. We're playing a lot of good cricket and, as usual, agenda is crowding people's views of the season. OHD was miles off it last season and we're now reaping the reward of good management this season, allowing him to play cricket and remain in rhythm on loan.

We're in a very good spot, playing in a difficult match on a result wicket against a decent quality seam attack bowling well. We've just bowled them out for the same as what we made. Context is so important when discussing players.

The stuff on Malik's average being less than that of Smith's is a one-sided argument. He's played on two result wickets against Essex and in this match. I'd argue he's in the side as he has more stickability than Smith who tends to be a freer, more languidly styled late innings scorer. Smith has played on flatter pitches. The decision making is sound, the fact its not bearing result isn't hugely surprising when taking into account the context.

Finally a balanced and sensible post, fair play.

Will need to see the rulebook on that one, but we've just ran three before the ball went for four overthrows and we've only been given six?

Well, who saw that coming, I said to the staff on the gates, "We don't want to see these 2 together all morning and some of the afternoon". Who would have thought they would both get bowled. Brook is always a candidate as he plays too many shots and shuffles about at the crease. One of the best days we have seen for a while. The bowling was great and then a good opening partnership, felt sorry for Davies as he weathered the storm, didn't feel the need to bash his way out of trouble and just stuck there until he got one that rose at him on a length. Hain as usual was patient but unfortunately Dan gave it away when in control and Yates was really looking good. Strange tactics from Yorkshire near the end, bringing on Brook and Bess with the field crowded in and only 2 outfielders. I have looked at the weather for Monday and it is very poor, I do hope it changes as I will get annoyed if we get a huge lead, it's rained off and we get the same points as Yorkshire.

Yeah why didnt get a 7 get indicated there? Couldn't understand that.

Excellent day for us and a terrific fight back to get us in a strong position. Yorkshire came at us very hard after lunch, Jack White is an excellent bowler, but Yates, who's timing was exemplary, and Davies (welcome little knock) weathered the storm brillaintly and you saw Yorkshire just wilt a little as the session went on. Logan van Beek must be worst performing bowler on the circuit at the moment so Dan Mousley will be kicking himself to get out to him after doing so much hard work. He started nicely but then lost his way a little in the 20's before going back up a gear once he got to 35 or so. He looked good technically. A ton looked certain, the silence in the ground when he got out was deafening.

Thought we played the scheduled longer evening session (40 overs) perfectly, the first 20 overs were always going to be the bowlers before we could cash in against the older ball and a tired attack. Hain marshalled this showing superb strike rotation.

Good crowd these first 2 days.

Couldn't understand why they left Brook on after White got Yates out. They essentially let Hain play himself in against him.
