6 down...is the door ajar?!

Andy, who said I was having a go at the batting, I actually pointed out that it doesn't look weak even though stats do distort things and I did point out that the bowling is the problem. Maybe I should paint a phoney picture of things like the club website often does.

No didn't mean it like that mate, was talking about supporters generally, not you. I replied quoting you as I agreed with you.

Just looking at the table and going purely on batting & bowling points, we have the worst bowling points total in the division and are currently 4th for batting (although that will likely fall to 6th by the time the games are finished).

I am convinced that those batting points mainly came in the first 4 games though.

We should be safe on the basis that others are running out of games and that the good old British summer seems to be back to normal

Not sure on that about the first 4 games? Don't think we gathered many, if any, batting points v Notts at home and Yorks away? Could be wrong.

Oh I get all that, I prefer to look at a players actual performances and who they make their runs against and game situations. For example Kai Smith has made just 3 half centuries this year and not else, but those 3 half centuries all came in high pressure situations etc. But looking at season averages then removing highest scores or lowest scores is weird as it's no longer a season average, just some of the season.

This business of taking batters averages but removing the highest and/or lowest scores, then revising the average and then judging the player accordingly is pretty mad, no?!

Test match in September? Blimey.

Amazing that we have 8 players averaging between 29 and 61 and yet batting is still a problem. I suppose it's the games where we get into trouble that we appear to struggle to rescue ourselves. Our main problem though is definitely bowling a side out.

People are poking at the batters and for anyone that just follows the scores I get it that's the way it looks but time and time again it just feels as though the opposition bowlers have got that bit more than our guys have.

Look at this morning, it's tight, very accurate, disciplined, manful, hard working bowling but goodness me it's absolutely toothless in pretty favourable overhead bowling conditions for seamers. We're crying out for somebody with a yard of pace and/or a bit of swing as opposed to just 77mph seam bowlers. We've bowled well but sometimes you just need that bit more in order to try and force the issue. Take the Worcestershire attack, Shahzad and Taylor aren't express but they're quicker than our guys, get a bit more bounce and get a bit of swing. Finch is pretty quick. Hampshire game felt like the same on a similar surface. Opposition bowling attack seems able to extract more out of whatever surface we're playing on.

Yeah don't think Westwood can be blamed too much.

Webster looks class and a brilliant innings from Kai thus far, best he's looked since Durham away.

This is, by my mind, only the 2nd time he's batted 3 in 4day cricket?

I get it's been bad and whose fault it is - but what's actually happening? Is it just Shazad getting a lot out of the new ball?

The dismissals in isolation look bad, they are bad, but yes they've bowled really well. Thought OHD and Bamber were good with the new ball yesterday, but Taylor and Shahzad just seem to have a bit more menace and are a touch quicker which has made a difference.

Pitch has become a minefield

Think there was a decent amount in it yesterday too just that once again the opposition bowlers have a bit more in the tank than ours do.

Malik riding his luck here...

Yates 4day form is very patchy...

Hi all a quick update on where I've got to on collecting member's votes. What I'm trying to do is to change the rules of the club so the board can only vote on ECB proposals to change the fixture list if they tell members how they intend to vote, hold a members vote and get the approval of 50% of the Warwickshire members who vote. I need the support of 250 members for that proposal to go forward to the membership as a whole. I did a walk round today and got 77 signatures with about 80 - 90% of the members I spoke to signing. Enough to make it worthwhile walking round again tomorrow. If you'd like to sign but weren't at the ground please message me on this site. If you are there tomorrow keep an eye out for me.

Hi, are you in on days 3 and/or 4? I didn't see you yesterday and I can't make today.

Yes it's a disciplined, solid, albeit limited bowling attack but they demonstrated that if you bowl as a unit pressure can bring wickets. We did bowl well.

I've said a few times I like him but he has a long way to go with the gloves.

Feel like Garrett did pretty well last season on some flat pitches in a poor side. Injuries this year though.

Tremendous from Barnard on the run out, had to be a direct hit. What a cricketer.

Good first session for us after losing the toss. Pleased to see Taz in the XI.
