Is in some select XI squad to play v Zimbabwe at Grace Road in a 4day match.
I do think he has a bit of a way to go with the gloves...I'm not for one second saying he's looked bad but he has looked a bit untidy at times. Burgess looked the same when he first arrived and he ended being terrific though...
Think they stuck at it really well on an absolutely lifeless, pudding pitch. Webster is such a useful cricketer being able to bowl seam and spin, great option. The day was drifting until Simmons managed breathe some fire, that short ball barrage was pretty hostile and he showed good pace to extract some bounce and life out of the pitch. Days like today do Yates a lot of good in terms of his development as a spin bowler, he's definitely improving and seems to bowl well and get wickets on these type of surfaces and in these type of situations (ie, runs on the board, in/out field etc), gets good overspin.
Encouraging signs just think psychologically we needed them following on tonight.
Do we know why Kai Smith isn't keeping?
Lively from Simmons.
Why has Davies got the gloves?
Has signed til the end of the season.
Thought it at the toss this Surrey XI looks a good deal weaker than anticipated. But yes this pitch looks incredibly docile, no pace in it whatsoever, will probably turn a bit after lunch tomorrow. There does seem to be a couple of particularly flat wickets over that side of the square, remember Northants at home 2022? This looks flatter than even that did.
Hain has had a quiet season but I don't think he'll get dropped...only way I see Bethell get in this line up is if Latham takes the gloves and Kai Smith sits out.
Latham giving everyone a lesson, when you get in on these sort of pitches you go big, you be greedy.
I feel like us and Kent have the most. Kent definitely had the most last season.
Terrible news

Surrey assuming pitch is dead again. Resting a bowler and bowling first. Just hope we can apply scoreboard pressure. Lacking a spinner again if we need variety.
Given the heartening results it’s a shame if Edgbaston is hampering us.
Totally agree.
Think Troughton was a regular and Bamber was in 1 episode. Or the other way around.

Be interesting to know if his father has ever been in the same film/play as David Troughton.
There is something from the 80's when this happened, can't remember the name of it unfortunately. Was a series I think.
Miles record v Surrey is pretty good, couple of 5fers for us v them.
Yeah I remember there being a big thing made of this when he broke into the Middlesex side.
Isaac Maddy
Dandy is doing really well, particularly so when you consider his relative inexperience at the level.
Outstanding win with so many players contributing. Webster's 85 was brilliant he took charge when the game was in the balance on day2. Barnard brilliant with a bat and ball, so reliable, a proper senior players performance. Bamber continues to impress, not sure I can recall too many people criticising him in fairness, he had a bad game v Notts, not sure anyone's gonna deny that. He looks a guaranteed wicket with the new ball. The openers deserve credit for the way they negotiated last night and then got us going this morning. Mousley's 32 in the first innings was crucial in the context of the game and also in the game situation at the time, Webster couldn't have done what he did had Mousley not steadied us after 47/4. Booth continues to give us a point of difference, i wasn't sure on him I admit. Never said I didn't rate him, just that I wanted to see more, now I have. Zen, looks a player, long way to go for him but once he settled he played some attractive shots, well done to him. Strange pitch that one, bit of up and down, definitely got easier against the older ball. People will point the finger at Yorkshire's batters failing but goodness me they bowled so poorly. We bowled excellently though, whenever it looked like the 3rd innings was getting away from us we just kept fighting back with a wicket or a miserly spell. We ain't gonna win every game but we are gonna fight. Root's wicket was a moment, always felt as though Yorkshire were favourites with at the crease, to get him though was clearly match defining.
2 away games, 2 wins.
Kinda feel like Yorkshire have nudged back in front here at Tea.
