The time has come for me to hang up my boots from professional cricket.
I will be forever grateful to every single person who has played a part in my journey - from junior coaches and club volunteers, to academy and county staff. To my parents, thank you for all the sacrifices you made when I was growing up. And especially to my dad, for the endless lifts to games and training, and for the constant support throughout my career — I truly couldn’t have done it without you.
The last three years at Warwickshire have been amazing. It’s frustrating that I didn’t get to spend as much time out on the park as I would have liked towards the end, but to everyone involved at this great club, thank you for having me. It’s been a real honour to wear the bear and ragged staff.
To all the members and staff at Durham, you were the biggest part of my life, from a 9-year-old boy to finishing with a few club records along the way. I am immensely proud to have represented my home club for so long, and I truly hope I did the badge justice.
It’s not quite how I imagined finishing my playing days, but life isn’t a fairytale, and my body has told me it’s time.
Now, I can fully concentrate on my new role with the Bears, and I’m incredibly excited to help shape some future pros and pass on everything I’ve learned over the last 17 years.
Thank you all,
Rushy
Superb performance from OHD, to get some movement out of a 55 over old kookaburra takes some serious skill. 👏👏👏
If it weren't for the seemingly flat pitch and awful kookaburra ball you would think that Warks would have this game wrapped up today. I'm still confident of a win but it might take both days to get there. We're only half way through this round of games and there's already been 14 hundreds scored with - I think 3 of them being double tons.
The lads are going to have to be patient and take the chances when they come, the new ball will be available just after lunch and that could be crucial.
The schedule this season has been terrible, not just for supporters but for players too. There's been a lot of bowlers pulling up injured and they're putting it down to the start-stop schedule early season.
I can see big changes coming in 2025, there's a push from some chairmen to adopt the 3 league conference system again, which, I think, will lead eventually to the number of championship games being reduced to ten. I hope that doesn't happen, but change is coming, and not necessarily for the best as far as us supporters are concerned.

Yes we might not finish in the top two now
There's still a lot of cricket to be played yet, Warks have a game in hand on Surrey and the immediate teams below us. 32 points behind with 8 games left is going to be difficult to make up but not impossible.
