Team:-

Wylie
Jani
Malik (Captain)
Shaikh
Dandy (Keeper)
Arjun Singh Nahal (Harborne CC)
Isaac Maddy (Knowle & Dorridge CC - and George's brother of course)
Taz Ali
Bamber
Simmons
Blakemore

We won the toss and chose to bat

Another, pretty much full strength, team:-

Yates (Captain)
Jani
Mousley
Shaikh
Smith (Keeper)
Garton
Dandy
Taz Ali
Bamber
Simmons
Sylvester.

Interesting that Kai is keeping (rather than Dandy) and Bamber is playing. I would'nt be surprised if 6 of that side (Yates, Mousley, Shaikh, Garton, Simmons & Bamber and Smith, keeping), might be in contention for the Blast on Friday.

Somerset won the toss and chose to bowl.

12 man team (1 dedicated bowler):-

Isaac Mohammed (Captain)
Wylie
Jack Redshaw (regular batsman for Yorkshire 2nds & Academy last season)
Jani
Gekis
Dandy (Keeper)
Briggs
Miles
Simmons
Taz Ali
Walallawita
Sylvester (bowling only)

We lost the toss and Somerset chose to bat.

Playing for our 2nds against Essex today. A 26 year old Sri Lankan born (but British citizen & English qualified) , left hand bat & spinner. He was released by Middlesex last summer, after being at Lords since 2012. An Academy graduate there, he made his 2nd team debut in 2015 (playing 120 appearances for them) and went on to a First team debut in 2020. He made 11 1st class appearances (with a best bowling figure of 3 for 28) and 24 Limited overs games (a T20 best of 3 for 18 - averaging 28).
When released, Middlesex said he, "had great talent, but future First team opportunities are likely to be limited". I would guess, Second Division cricket and the notoriously bad financial situation at Middlesex, probably meant they had to significantly trim the squad.
After being released, he joined the South Asian team and already has proved his worth for them. He took 10 wickets (for 130 in 48 overs) against our 2nds at Portland Road last week!

I really hope he gets a good run out for our Second team in the next couple of months and proves his potential (even at 26, spinners can still develop) - and gets a contract with us. We are desperately short of spin back up - and although not extensive experience, he does have more than the likes of Taz Ali, who had to be drafted in recently.

So, a cracking lineup for the 3 day Friendly against Essex:-
Isaac Mohammed
Jani
Gekis
Malik (Captain)
Wylie
Dandy (Keeper)
Lintott
Miles
Simmons
Thilan Walallawita (see Players thread)
Blakemore
Sylvester

SO pleased Jani is back with us - his record this season is wonderful and having seen him bat at Portland Road, he has such potential.
Also, I am really pleased with the selection of Thilan Walallawita (left hand bat & spinner). He 'demolished' our batting, when playing for the South Asian team last week - taking 10 for 130 in 48 overs. After being an Academy graduate at Lords, he had 120 appearances for Middlesex 2nds, played in 11 First class matches & 24 Limited overs games. Released by Middlesex last summer. Check out the Players thread for a bit more detail.

We won the toss and put Essex in.

Team for the 3 day Friendly at Portland Road, starting today:-

Isaac Mohammed
Malik
Gekis
Jani
Wylie
Lintott
Briggs
Miles (Captain)
Simmons
Dandy (Keeper)
Blakemore
Sylvester

Yorkshire won the toss and chose to bowl.

Team:-
Isaac Mohammed
Malik
Shaikh (also playing for the 1st's !)
Gekis
Wylie
Lintott (Captain)
Miles
Tazeen Ali
Dandy (Keeper)
Blakemore
Mahmood

Lintott has 'burning desire' to play red-ball cricket - https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/articles/cj3ed01n605o

Great interview on BBC Cricket. Talking about his history, his record and his desire to play red ball cricket. I had a feeling he'd supplant Briggs as our first choice spinner in the CC this season and this interview probably has been done to justify that.

Good on him, he deserves it. For his perseverance, as much as his skills.

An Academy player, making a step towards the first team. Played a couple of times for the Seconds.

Again, interesting that no comment from Robinson - Stuart Barnes did the chat.

As KoS predicted - a major Overseas signing. NZ Captain - I guess Larsen was instrumental in getting him.

2 match loan from Leicestershire, to cover injuries (Booths & Simmons) and departures (Rae). Apparently, you can only take loans from a different Division and players who have played less than 2 CC matches

Team:-
Malik
Isaac Mohammed
Benjamin (Capt)
Kai Smith (Keeper)
Levi Gekis (Academy & Staffs all rounder)
Wylie
Miles
Booth
Arjuna Rao
Taz Ali
Francis Moore
Ben Blakemore (Academy & Staffs seam bowler)

Somerset won the toss and put us in.

Same team:-
Yates
Barnard
Rhodes
Shaikh
Burgess
Smith
Benjamin
Lintott
Booth
Ali
OHD

Yorkies won the toss and put us in.

A few interesting additions to the team at Nottingham today:

Tom Hinley - a left arm spinner who had one CC appearance for Sussex (and came through the Development squads at Hove)
Hishaam Khan - a left arm seamer who's has played for Leicestershire & Kent Seconds, but most recently has been a regular in the Staffs MC team
Most interestingly, Liam Guthrie - a 27 year old Aussie, left arm fast bowler, who has many First Class & One Day appearances for Western Australia (and came through their Development squads), Tasmania & Hobart and this (Aussie) summer, for Queensland & Brisbane.

Just one change from the Sussex game - Theo Wylie in for Sam Hain. 2 left arm seamers again - Toole & Sutton. Garlick in as a bowler.

They've actually made a start this morning (at both grounds) ! Seconds team:-

Hamza Shaikh
Amir Khan
Chris Benjamin (Keeper - one of 3 in the team !)
Nikhil Gorantla (RB - played a few 2nds games for us last year, from Essex 2nds & Cambridgeshire)
Kai Smith
Theo Wylie
George Maddy
Jake Lintott (Captain)
Che Simmons
Jacob Garlick (RB, RM - from the Academy)
Tom Davis (RB, RM - from Kent 2nds)
Matt Burton (LB, RM - from Worcester, Hampshire 2nds & Wiltshire)

Essex won the toss, choes to bat and are currently 69 for 3 (a wicket apiece for Burton, Simmons and Davis - all clean bowled)

Match reports of the 2 x 90 over red ball game with Yorkshire in Abu Dhabi.

We (sort of) lost, but some good performances - batting yesterday particularly - but OHD and Norwell bowling well today.
