RIP Roger Woakes. I'm sure Chris will be back for the Bears as soon as he feels he is ready.

He says:
“I’d love to be part of the Tests next summer, if selected. But if not I’ll be around a lot more for Warwickshire. There will certainly be parts of the season where I’m around and playing in a Warwickshire shirt."

Any talk on his availability during the early stages of this season? Hasn't played any competitive cricket since January. Wasn't on pre season tour, hasn't taken part in either game v Northants.

Can't see anything confirmed

I'd assume a couple of games in May

Think he's no longer considered an England one day player but expect him to need some Bears games before the first summer test May 22nd. Yorkshire and Surrey fixtures?

We could really do with Chris Woakes playing at the start of this season. Surely he needs some matches to build up his fitness? Or are the ECB going to deny him playing for us yet again??

Has an ankle injury, might be available v Yorkshire on May 2nd. According to Dobell.

Certainly has been the case but his knees (or at this precise moment, his ankle) are so bad he can only make the odd game and can't play consistently.

The Daily Mail says: "Woakes, 36, has been troubled by an ankle injury since returning from the SA20 in February and privately acknowledges that he might not be ready to prove his fitness in a County Championship fixture against Yorkshire at Headingley on May 2."

Blimey he only played about 4 games in that comp and that was way back in January.

I love the lad but he's made of glass.

Age and several injuries of late are catching up. England still see him as an important cog in the bowling attack and a useful batsman. I'd still like to see him play a couple of seasons for the Bears, fitness permitting.

I don't think there will be a stage when he's over injuries and he'll be able to play a whole season of county cricket. It's permanent injuries he's got now and he's 36. Love him, but I think he either goes T20 / franchise only from this winter or he retires in full. I'm guessing he wants to go to Australia but don't see it unless he gets on the field for May and before the internationals start.

Sounds like he's going to play for England Lions in a 2 match series starting end of the month. That pretty much rules him out of playing for us I'd have thought. Very disappointing.

Looks as though he might just play at Worcester, which would be better than nothing.

Oh I didn't know that? That'd be great.

The article on the Club website says:
"The 36-year-old is building back to match fitness and is expected to be included in the Bears squad that travels to New Road on Friday."
Of course, that doesn't mean that he will definitely play.
