Nice article on the BBC on our Woakesy.

Yes, an interesting read. He doesn't always get the credit he deserves, so it's good to read: "Overall, with 1,970 runs and 181 wickets, Woakes is closing in on becoming only the sixth Englishman to do the 2,000-200 double in Tests and will probably do so as the second-fastest in terms of matches, after Ian Botham."

Not looking good for Chris Woakes. Latest reports say:
"The injury looks more serious than expected, and the right-arm seamer is most likely to miss the Ashes as well.
The report stated that the doctors confirmed a serious injury to the shoulder and might require surgery. A surgery would mean that Woakes will miss the next five months of action."

....and George Dobell adds:
"At the age of 36 and out of his central contract in a couple of months, there is clearly a danger this incident will spell the end of Woakes' international career. Various captains and coaches came to rely on him for his commitment to the team, his selflessness and his low-maintenance positivity. If this is the end, it will have been a fine career."

In the last 20 years we have been fortunate to see three players that would have very strong claims to a place in an all-time Warwickshire XI in Bell, Trott and Woakes. I don't remember us having a better all-rounder than Wiz, only Shaun Pollock being in the same league. If this injury ends his career, it will feel like the close of a significant chapter in the club's history.

It would be a terrible thing for him to have to go through more injury problems but I fear that this will spell the end of his Test career and it's a pity he might end up with 191 Test wickets, not far off the 200. I doubt he would be picked after this as at the age of 37 it might mean a backward step, despite Anderson being in his 40's when still playing. If this is indeed his last Test, it would be a shame if England didn't win seeing as the Indian team have behaved like the bunch of pampered Indian prince's they have now become. Today's antics are exactly the opposite of what Chris Woakes represents and even though England have some feisty players in their side, they would not get away with what India did today despite idiots like Vaughan enjoying all the stupid displays of bad behaviour trying to make out it's a good thing. So, if this is his last game, I would love England to chase down any target they need and give him a good send off.

If this the end of his Test career I desperately hope this isn't the end of him in a Bears shirt too.

As I’ve said in a different thread I’d offer him the Warwickshire captaincy next season!

If this is the end for him internationally be interesting to see where he goes. His central contract is up soon and can't see him getting any franchise gigs over the winter because of injury. I think its a touch early for a full retirement - so does he get a full season next year under a Warks contract?

I cannot see him playing in all 3 formats but I would think he could be told he can play if/when he feels he can give 100%. That might mean 2/3 of CC games and most of the T20. It would be great to see him play for us but I do think his best days in international cricket are behind him.

I had a dream about Chris Woakes last night (yes, I know, very sad!). In the dream, England lost their ninth wicket in this Test match when they only needed two to win, the Indian team started to celebrate and then they saw Chris Woakes coming down the pavilion steps, ready to bat with his arm in a sling. That might just happen tomorrow.
Who won in my dream? I woke up and didn't find out!

I am hoping that he isn't needed but I would feel better if he was in before Tongue just on the basis of staying there for whoever is at the other end.

Poor Woaksey, had a feeling this morning that it would be close. I would much rather lose by 100 runs than this, especially against these pampered princes who will now be full of themselves. Thought 'The Wizard' might be there at the end to celebrate. Sometimes I hate this game, I have no problem if sides give it out mutually but India have crossed the line and have played 'Victim' and the UK media have sided with them. Is that the end of CW in an England shirt?

Both sides have their fair share of idiots in my opinion Paul. England at times have also acted incredibly entitled in this series, particularly Stokes, great player though he is. Woakes, heartbreaking to see him in pain like that. Like has been said previously, may well be the end for him in an England shirt, just hope it's not the end of him in a Bears shirt. Been an amazing, inspiring cricketer.

Don't like that word 'Entitled', it gets banded about too much, maybe correct in the old days of the 'Amateurs' but India just moan until they get their own way in most tournaments and their recent T20 WC win says all you need to know about a side who are 'Entitled', change of tournament start time, refusing to travel and wanting loads of time off between games. They got their own way and will continue if the weak ICC let them.

Don't disagree with any of that regarding the the recent World Cup and venues etc. Don't really see the relevance it has on this series either though to be honest. Like I say, India embarrassing behaviour at times, England not 'whiter than white' either, both sides have shown themselves up.

It had no relevance on this series but lots of other things India did were pathetic and it just shows that the once genial players from that part of the world appear to be 'Play Acting' too much due to the power they have in world cricket since the ICC now bend over backwards to accommodate them in every way, a prime example, Jadeja insisting someone change their top on Saturday as it was putting him off despite the bloke sitting there all day. I always thought the sightscreen was what a batsman saw when a bowler was running in.

I just hope that Chris Woakes hasn't exacerbated his injury by going out there vtoday and running between the wickets which obviously caused him great pain.

Its happened before. Bairstow did it twice in one series a couple of years back. I even remember Dermot Reeve doing it he'd go as far as to make people move seats!
